Senior Manager, US Meetings Regional Lead
What you will do

Amgen is seeking a collaborative and experienced Senior Manager, US Meetings to serve as the regional lead for the United States within the Global Meetings Management (GMM) program. This role is responsible for driving the execution of regional meeting strategy, overseeing operational delivery, leading issue escalation and resolution efforts, managing agency and supplier relationships, and ensuring alignment with global program objectives.
With oversight of a portfolio that includes 500+ meetings annually, the Senior Manager leads a team of up to five and acts as the primary point of contact for US meeting partners. The ideal candidate will bring strong partner management, supplier engagement, and problem-solving skills, along with experience in strategic meetings execution in highly regulated environments.
Key Responsibilities
Regional Leadership & Strategic Execution
- Serve as the US regional lead for meetings, representing the region within the global GMM operating model.
- Drive execution of regional initiatives aligned with the global meetings strategy.
- Guide business units in applying GMM policy, standard processes, and technology tools to deliver compliant, effective meetings.
- Define and influence the design of key meetings, ensuring every event supports program goals and enhances attendee experience.
- Represent US interests in global GMM strategy discussions and cross-regional collaborations.
- Stay current on industry standard methodologies, benchmarking against peers, and finding opportunities for innovation and efficiency.
Issue Resolution & Escalation Management
- Serve as the primary escalation point for US meeting-related challenges, ensuring swift, solution-focused resolution.
- Partner with internal teams and external agencies to address service gaps, client concerns, and emerging risks.
- Identify root causes of recurring issues and implement systemic corrective actions.
- Promote a proactive culture of risk awareness, resolution ownership, and transparent follow-up.
Stakeholder Management
- Build strong, trust-based relationships with senior US collaborators and functional partners (e.g., Commercial, Compliance, Legal, Finance, GCC).
- Deliver strategic consultation and education on the GMM value proposition and capabilities.
- Support adoption of new policies, platforms, and operational models through effective communication and change management.
Vendor Management
- Develop and maintain a diversified network of preferred vendors across meeting services, including logistics, A/V, and venue sourcing.
- Oversee day-to-day agency operations, ensuring commitment against critical metrics and contract terms.
- Drive consistency and quality across vendor touchpoints and ensure alignment with Amgen’s compliance framework.
Program Operations & Compliance
- Oversee and manage end-to-end off-site meetings processes in the US, ensuring policy compliance and operational efficiency.
- Oversee program critical metrics, agency scorecards, audit support, and adherence to internal controls.
- Partner with GSS & Finance to forecast and monitor regional meeting budgets, analyze variances, and implement cost containment strategies.
- Champion technology adoption, including Cvent, as the system of record for meetings data and reporting.
Continuous Improvement & Innovation
- Leverage data-driven insights and industry trends to refine strategies, improve templates, and enhance vendor delivery methods.
- Support technology and workforce strategies to advance automation and integrate AI tools.
- Foster a culture of iterative improvement and learning within the regional meetings function.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, develop, and inspire a team of up to five direct reports.
- Set clear goals, provide regular coaching, and support career development and learning opportunities.
- Mentor new team members and vendor partners, instilling a culture of excellence, accountability, and innovation.
- Promote diversity of thought and open communication within the team.
Domestic and international travel required, 20%-30%.

Basic Qualifications:
Doctorate degree and 2 years of project, travel, or meetings experience
Or
Master’s degree and 6 years of project, travel, or meetings experience
Or
Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of project, travel, or meetings experience
Or
Associate degree and 10 years of project, travel, or meetings experience
Or
High school diploma / GED and 12 years of project, travel, or meetings experience
In addition to meeting at least one of the above requirements, you must have a minimum of 2 years experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation or resources. Your managerial experience may run concurrently with the required technical experience referenced above
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in strategic meetings management, event operations, or supplier/vendor oversight in a regulated corporate environment.
- Success in partner engagement, agency performance management, and critical issue resolution.
- Strong vendor management skills, including contract negotiation, KPI oversight, and network development.
- Experience with HCP-compliant meetings or similar regulatory frameworks in biotech, pharma, or life sciences.
- Proficiency with Cvent, Tableau, Smartsheet, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong analytical approach with the ability to link strategy to performance data and cost discipline.
- Effective interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills across all organizational levels

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
