Senior Director, Research Portfolio, Program and Collaboration Management Lead – US, Remote
What you will do

In this vital role you will lead the Research Portfolio, Program, and Collaboration Management function within the R&D Strategy and Operations (RDSO) organization. You will be responsible for developing and executing frameworks, strategies, and best practices that drive end-to-end value, speed, and quality across Amgen’s Research portfolio.
This leader will establish a holistic vision for program and collaboration management of the research portfolio. They will collaborate across Research Therapeutic Area leadership and governance bodies, and cross-functional teams to shape TA and disease area strategies, optimize portfolio decision-making, and enable execution excellence to deliver high-quality pipeline assets.
The leader will build and manage a top-performing team of TA Directors, Program and Collaboration Managers to deliver portfolio excellence.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Develop and implement robust frameworks for Research TA and Disease Area strategy development in alignment with Therapeutic Area Governance (TAG) strategy
Advance robust capabilities for active shaping and management of TA project portfolios, including portfolio analytics, portfolio reviews, risk management, and resource allocation
Drive strong project and collaboration and delivery practices focused on speed and optimized value
Lead portfolio management for one or more Research Therapeutic Areas
Partner with the late-stage portfolio and program management office to ensure end-to-end strategic portfolio alignment and value delivery
Lead delivery efforts for corporate Scientific Advisory Boards and Research Outreach programs
Attract, develop, and retain talent; cultivate a team culture rooted in purpose, inclusion, and growth
Lead continuous improvement of Research portfolio management capabilities and processes
Provide leadership for functional or cross-functional strategic initiatives, including merger and acquisition integration
Travel expectations are quarterly in Thousand Oaks, CA
What we expect of you

Basic Qualifications:
Doctorate degree and 5 years relevant scientific and industry experience
OR
Master’s degree and 9 years relevant scientific and industry experience
OR
Bachelor’s degree and 11 years relevant scientific and industry experience
AND
5 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources
Preferred Qualifications:
Leadership experience in cross-functional drug development or business development for early-stage pipeline assets
Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver portfolio, organizational, and functional strategies with measurable impact
Deep understanding of R&D, drug development, and commercialization processes
Strong scientific expertise and business discernment with demonstrated portfolio and program management experience
Executive presence with an ability to influence others at all levels
Strategic problem-solver capable of navigating ambiguity and driving pragmatic solutions
Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills
Leadership experience building and developing top-performing teams in matrixed environments
Experience with finance, budgeting, and resource planning
Skilled at conflict resolution, stakeholder management, and change leadership

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is $217,589. to $248,513. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
