We are hiring a Director of Corporate Affairs in Tokyo to lead our Corporate Affairs function in Japan. This position will report to the JAPAC (Japan and Asia-Pacific region) Senior Director of Corporate Affairs in Singapore, with a dotted line to the General Manager of Amgen K.K. This leader will oversee communications and advocacy relations for the affiliate and serve as a trusted partner to the Japan leadership team.

What you will do
Serve as a senior advisor to the General Manager and leadership team, translating business goals into clear, timely, and impactful communications.
Build, protect and amplify Amgen K.K.’s reputation with strategic, authentic storytelling that resonates with key audiences across Japan.
Develop and execute integrated communications strategies—across media, emerging media, social and digital media—to support corporate priorities, therapeutic areas, and key brand milestones and opportunities.
Build trusted, meaningful relationships with external stakeholders, including media, digital influencers, patient advocacy groups and key opinion leaders.
Develop and lead an advocacy engagement strategy that fosters trusted relationships with patient advocacy groups, to amplify the patient voice and support improved access to care.
Support senior leaders in delivering clear, consistent, and patient-centric messages to internal and external audiences.
Provide disease and patient education communications in partnership with the Brand team including marketing, Medical and Value and access functions.
Deliver impactful product communications around launches of new medicines and expanded indications.
Support strategic internal communications to help foster a connected, energized employee culture. This may include kick-off meetings, townhalls, communicating company strategy and priorities as well as executing local Mission Week activities.
Actively partner with cross-functional teams—including Commercial, Government Affairs, Medical, Legal, Regulatory—to shape the narrative around Amgen’s contributions to innovation and society in Japan.
Proactively identify emerging communications channels and trends, ensuring Amgen’s voice reaches patients, physicians, policymakers, and the public where they are.
Drive issues and crisis preparedness in coordination with Global and Regional Corporate Affairs teams.
Oversee the Japan Corporate Affairs team and vendors, ensuring high-quality execution, compliance, and budget discipline.

What we expect of you
Basic Qualifications
Master’s degree and 5 years of communications or public relations experience
ORBachelor’s degree and 6-7 years of communications or public relations experience
Preferred Qualifications
Proven experience in corporate communications, public affairs, or public relations or an adjacent field, ideally within healthcare, pharmaceuticals, or biotechnology.
Experience in other areas of pharmaceutical industry such as marketing or medical would be an important plus.
Exceptional communicator with an intuitive grasp of how to connect, repeat, and reinforce messages to reach diverse internal and external audiences.
Deep understanding and appreciation of the Japanese culture, landscape, and stakeholder expectations and communication approaches & channels appropriateness.
Comfortable coaching executives, leading town halls, and adapting messaging for different audiences and platforms.
Experience building communications strategies that spark employee connection and pride.
Passionate about external engagement and able to think beyond traditional media—comfortable working with digital creators, physician influencers, and emerging platforms when appropriate.
Skilled at translating complex topics into compelling, compliant storytelling that aligns with commercial and corporate goals.
Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive issues with confidentiality, clarity, speed, and sound judgment.
Team-first leader with a positive, constructive style—brings confidence and positivity to complex situations and fosters trust across functions.
Experience leading and developing talent; a role model of Amgen’s values in every interaction.
Fluency in English, with excellent written and verbal skills.
