Senior Maintenance Manager-Engineering
What you will do

In this role as a member of the Amgen Thousand Oaks MCS Drug Substance Supply Extended leadership team, the Senior Manager will oversee all maintenance activities for Amgen’s Manufacturing Drug Substance facilities at the Thousand Oaks Site including GMP Facilities.
The position reports directly to the Associate Director Engineering and will be managing a team of Front-Line Managers and Maintenance technicians supporting 24/7 Operations. The senior manager will provide technical and administrative leadership to a large and diverse group of approximately 25 craft-oriented personnel with additional dotted line responsibilities including but not, limited to maintenance/instrumentation technicians, electricians, clean utilities operators/system owners, planners, schedulers, and work order administrators.
Responsibilities:
- Ensuring safety of all personnel during plant operations and maintenance activities
- Ensuring that all staff are adequately trained and comply with all GMP standards and procedures
- Enhancing staff productivity and the efficient use of available resources across facilities
- Maintain and improve plant capability and equipment reliability in partnership with engineering leadership and technical staff
- Leverage resources to support ongoing capital project investment
- Support network-wide improvement in plant maintenance and operation as ATO’s representative on the MOGN (Maintenance and Operations Global Network)
- Consistent with Amgen’s focus on Operational Excellence, the senior manager will identify areas of potential improvement, conduct analyses, recommend solutions, sponsor improvement projects, and implement as required
- The Senior Manager will maintain and develop key performance indicators of maintenance and utility performance, supervise, assess, and develop staff, and ensure that all targets and achievements are completed on time and on budget
- The Senior Manager will collaborate with a diverse Amgen internal network customer base, including plant and area Managers, Process Engineering & Automation, Capital Projects, Corporate Functions (Engineering, Global Facilities and Operations, and Environmental Health and Safety, Process Development, and other Commercial Sites).
Specific responsibilities include:
- Coordinating a safe and highly compliant work force working with highly utilized clinical & commercial operations site
- Oversight and coordination of complex and multi-layer facilities/maintenance related initiatives
- Day-to-day support, small projects, maintenance and instrumentation, and plant shut-downs
- Manage maintenance and facility related system ownership by providing adequate resources and technical talent and expertise, maintenance procedures, providing adequate system validation, monitoring performance data, providing adequate training materials, and ensuring operating procedures are followed
- Risk management, direct responsiveness to audits and external partner visits
- Manages partners and drives new business processes to ensure continuous and sustained improvements
- Ensures site readiness and compliance for internal audits, external agency audits, and partner visits
- Coordinates business continuity

Basic Qualifications:
Doctorate degree and 2 years of Engineering, or Maintenance experience,
Or
Master’s degree and 6 years of Engineering, or Maintenance experience,
Or
Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of Engineering, or Maintenance experience,
Or
Associate’s degree and 10 years of Engineering, or Maintenance experience,
Or
High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Engineering, or Maintenance experience,
In addition to meeting at least one of the above requirements, you must have a minimum of 2 years experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation or resources. Your managerial experience may run concurrently with the required technical experience referenced above
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field; advanced degree preferred.
- 10 years of experience in engineering management, with a focus on Maintenance and Plant Utilities.
- Consistent track record of leading large teams and running complex projects.
- Solid understanding of 24x7 technical support systems and processes.
- Experience with new product introductions and change control management for CAPAs.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
- Active Participation: Engage actively in network forums.
- Must be onsite daily

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
