Maintenance Manager

This role is part of the Facilities & Engineering (F&E) group within the Manufacturing Clinical Supply (MCS) organization at Amgen. The Maintenance Manager - will be responsible for leading maintenance teams, ensuring reliable equipment performance, and driving operational excellence for Drug Product equipment. This position will report to the Sr. Manager of Engineering, Drug Product, and Warehouse Operations at the Amgen Thousand Oaks site.
The Maintenance Manager will provide technical leadership, personnel management, and strategic oversight for maintenance activities within Drug Product Manufacturing areas on shift operations. The position requires hands-on leadership to support corrective and preventive maintenance, equipment troubleshooting, compliance, and continuous improvement efforts within a highly regulated cGMP environment.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
Provide tactical and strategic leadership to shift maintenance teams supporting Inspection and Packaging processes.
Assign, manage, and coordinate maintenance activities across shifts, ensuring efficient use of resources.
Lead and develop the shift maintenance team through mentoring, training, and performance management.
Provide Graveyard shift coverage including one weekend night.
Maintenance Operations & Technical Oversight
Oversee the execution of preventive and corrective maintenance across Inspection and Packaging lines.
Troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues in collaboration with cross-functional teams (Manufacturing, Automation, Quality, etc.).
Ensure system access, training, and qualification compliance for maintenance personnel.
Manage work orders in CCMS (Maximo), ensuring timely documentation and compliance with GxP requirements.
Maintain high safety standards by conducting safety walks, supporting incident investigations, and driving improvements.
Compliance & Continuous Improvement
Ensure that all maintenance activities comply with cGMP, GDP, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements.
Support investigations into non-conformances, deviations, and CAPA execution.
Participate in internal and external audits, ensuring site readiness and adherence to regulatory expectations.
Utilize Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Six Sigma, and Predictive Maintenance techniques to drive equipment reliability and efficiency.
Work with diverse stakeholders to remove bottlenecks and streamline maintenance processes.

Basic Qualifications:
High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Maintenance experience OR
Associate’s degree and 10 years of Maintenance experience OR
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of Maintenance experience OR
Master’s degree and 3 years of Maintenance experience OR
Doctorate degree
In addition to meeting at least one of the above requirements, you must have experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation or resources. Your managerial experience may run concurrently with the required technical experience referenced above
Preferred Qualifications:
5+ years of experience in Biopharmaceutical operations
Prior experience in leading maintenance teams in a regulated environment (cGMP, OSHA, EPA, FDA)
Working knowledge of Fill finish equipment, and aseptic processing equipment
Experience with equipment troubleshooting, validation, and compliance documentation
Familiarity with Maximo, Learning Management Systems, and Electronic Batch Records
Strong understanding of CAPA, Change Control, and Quality Systems management
Ability to analyze problems and develop data-driven solutions (RCA, SPC, Six Sigma)
Excellent leadership, technical writing, and communication skills

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted.
Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
