Senior Occupational Health Nurse
What you will do
Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will join a dynamic team of occupational health professionals. This in-person, onsite position plays a critical role in maintaining the health, safety, and productivity of Amgen staff through the delivery of high-quality clinical care and program leadership at the South San Francisco location.
The Senior Occupational Health Nurse / Nurse Practitioner is a key healthcare provider and strategic partner responsible for managing occupational health services, supporting compliance initiatives, and optimizing staff wellbeing across the site.
Clinical & Technical Competencies
- Clinical Evaluation & Treatment: Expert in assessing and managing workplace injuries and illnesses within license scope. Experience in CA workman's compensation regulations and processes.
- Blood Draw (Phlebotomy): Proficient in venipuncture and specimen handling for occupational health assessments, surveillance, and diagnostics.
- Medical Surveillance: Skilled in conducting audiometry, spirometry, vision tests, vaccinations, wellness screenings, and international travel consultations.
- Emergency Response: Supports onsite medical emergency response, support site AED program .
- Return-to-Work Coordination: Leads case management for injury/illness recovery and support ADA accommodations process.
Program & Operations Management
- Program Leadership: Designs, implements, and evaluates occupational health programs aligned with Amgen’s health and safety initiatives.
- Regulatory Compliance: Deep knowledge of OSHA, ADA, medical privacy, Workers’ Compensation, and California-specific occupational health regulations.
- Documentation in electronic medical records management systems: Maintains accurate and confidential electronic medical records and supports audit readiness.
- Data & Reporting Proficiency: Uses Microsoft Office tools (Email, Excel, PowerPoint) to generate reports and conduct data analysis for health trends. Comfort level in navigating clinical databases and using technology to drive business performance.
Communication & Interpersonal Excellence
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborates effectively with cross-functional partners across the business including, safety, human resources, security, legal, front line managers and leadership teams. Demonstrates a one-team mentality to optimize the health of all staff.
- Health Education: Communicates clearly with employees across all levels to promote a culture of health, safety and wellbeing.
- Written & Verbal Clarity: Demonstrates strong communication skills in both documentation and interpersonal interactions.
Strategic & Analytical Thinking
- Independent Decision-Making: Operates autonomously in a solo clinical setting with high accountability.
- Judgment & Confidentiality: Exercises sound judgment in case handling and employee health discussions.
- Continuous Improvement: Evaluates and enhances health services based on site needs, employee feedback, and regulatory shifts.
What we expect of you

Basic Qualifications:
- High school diploma / GED and 10 years of Occupational Health experience; OR
- Associate’s degree and 8 years of Occupational Health experience; Or
- Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of Occupational Health experience; Or
- Master’s degree and 2 years of Occupational Health experience; Or
- Doctorate degree
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in an Occupational Health setting.
- Current valid California Nursing License as Registered Nurse or Nurse Practitioner in good standing
- Furnishing and DEA license (for nurse practitioner)
- Current CPR/BLS Certification.
- COHN-S Certification preferred
- Certification in audiometry and spirometry preferred

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is $99,152 to $139,625. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
