Process Development Senior Scientist

What you will do

In this vital role, you will lead mass spectrometry-based analytical development, driving innovation in protein and macromolecule characterization to support drug substance and drug product development. You will apply sophisticated LC-MS techniques, data analysis, and method development to solve complex analytical challenges, collaborate cross-functionally, and contribute to the advancement of ground breaking biopharmaceuticals.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Design and execute mass spectrometry experiments to characterize proteins, monoclonal antibodies, and macromolecules using advanced analytical techniques.
  • Lead and drive Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS) method development for various sample matrices, including Drug Substance (DS) and Drug Product (DP).
  • Establish acceptance criteria, conduct technical data reviews, analyze and interpret mass spectrometry data, and generate comprehensive technical reports.
  • Train and mentor Analytical Scientists in mass spectrometry techniques, ensuring proficiency in experimental design, data analysis, and instrument operation.
  • Investigate and characterize unknown peaks in Drug Substance, Drug Product, and in-process samples, applying advanced analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Perform mass spectrometry data analysis and interpretation, generating detailed reports and technical summaries to support decision-making.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with scientific and technical teams to design experiments, interpret results, and provide mass spectrometry expertise in analytical development.
  • Experience in gas chromatography is a plus, providing additional expertise in analytical separation techniques.

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree

Or

Master’s degree and 3 years of Scientific experience

Or

Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of Scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience with mass spectrometry (MS), including high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) and data processing using various software.
  • Strong understanding of mass spectrometry principles, including MS and MS/MS techniques, ionization methodologies for large and small molecules, and analytical method development.
  • Proven expertise in the operation, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of MS instruments, with the ability to interpret complex analytical data.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze raw data and apply scientific reasoning to resolve analytical challenges.
  • Proficiency in liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), including method development and optimization.
  • Experience with chromatography data systems (CDS), such as Chromeleon, Atlas, Empower, or similar platforms for data acquisition and analysis.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish, with strong verbal and written communication skills for technical reporting and collaboration.
