CD&A - Principal Machine Learning Engineer

What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will help shape and scale the machine learning ecosystem that drives strategic insights for Amgen’s Commercial organization. You will be a key technical leader within a collaborative, multi-functional team dedicated to delivering actionable recommendations using advanced machine learning and data science solutions.

As a Principal Machine Learning Engineer, you will architect and implement robust, scalable solutions using modern tools such as Databricks, Spark, AWS services, GitLab CI/CD, and more. You will drive architectural decisions, set engineering best practices, and play a critical role in supporting the team’s data scientists (your primary partners) to bring models from concept to production. Your work will support end-to-end machine learning lifecycle management, including DevOps/MLOps pipelines, production-grade model deployment and monitoring, data orchestration, and cloud-native infrastructure. This is a hands-on, leadership-oriented role that requires strategic vision, technical depth, and strong interpersonal communication skills to optimally engage both internal partners and external vendors.

Beyond your technical contributions, your efforts will directly support Amgen’s mission to accelerate diagnosis and treatment for patients with rare diseases, helping bring life-changing therapies to those who need them most.

  • Act as a key point of contact with external vendors (e.g., Databricks, Neo4j, AWS, IQVIA, Komodo, Veeva) to manage escalations, align on roadmap updates, maintain real-time communication practices, and know the latest with platform changes aligned to U.S. business operations
  • Collaborate closely and communicate proactively with U.S.-based data scientists, engineers, IT, cloud infrastructure, data governance, analytics, and brand teams to deliver critical machine learning capabilities
  • Architect and implement end-to-end MLOps pipelines (training, deployment, monitoring, CI/CD, lineage, and rollback)
  • Architect and implement end-to-end data pipelines (ingestion, storage, transformation, validation, orchestration, and monitoring)
  • Design and implement internal ML tooling, shared libraries, and utilities
  • Build and maintain production ML pipelines using Spark, Databricks, MLflow, and other analytics platforms
  • Leverage and integrate cloud-native services (primarily in AWS and Databricks) to enable performant, secure, and cost-effective ML and data infrastructure
  • Lead DevOps and GitOps practices across ML systems, including but not limited to CI/CD automation, environment provisioning, and job orchestration
  • Monitor and optimize the reliability and performance of data pipelines
