Specialist Integration Architect, Mulesoft
What you will do

In this vital role The Specialist IS Architect – MuleSoft Platform is responsible for developing and maintaining the technical architecture of Amgen’s Enterprise MuleSoft Platform. This senior-level, individual contributor role focuses on defining and implementing the platform's infrastructure vision, shaping its roadmap, and ensuring alignment with the broader enterprise integration strategy.
You will work closely with key stakeholders—including platform architects, engineers, and security teams—to understand business and technical requirements, design scalable and secure API integration solutions, and maintain consistency to enterprise architecture standards. This role emphasizes infrastructure design, cloud-native enablement, runtime architecture, and DevOps integration within the MuleSoft ecosystem.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Architect and implement core platform capabilities for MuleSoft Anypoint Platform including Runtime Fabric, VPCs, load balancing, and hybrid networking
Design and manage containerized MuleSoft deployments on Kubernetes
- Lead design of API integrations that leverage AWS-native services such as S3
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines to automate MuleSoft deployments using Docker, GitHub Actions, and infrastructure-as-code practices
- Write platform-level automation and tooling in Python, shell, or similar for provisioning, deployment, and monitoring
- Drive platform observability, logging, and performance optimization in coordination with cloud engineering and security teams
- Guide enforcement of security and compliance policies, including OAuth2, TLS, token management, and role-based access control
- Lead and conduct technical reviews, solution assurance activities, and architecture documentation
- Mentor MuleSoft engineers and developers, providing guidance on architectural patterns, DevOps, and platform reusability
- Collaborate with platform collaborators to support roadmap planning, feature enhancements, and standard process implementation
- Serve as a domain expert on integration architecture, platform operations, and DevSecOps for APIs
- Oversee delivery of reusable APIs, templates, connectors, and accelerators to speed project delivery and reduce technical debt.

Basic Qualifications:
- Doctorate degree/Master's degree/Bachelor’s degree with 8- 13 years of experience in Computer Science, IT or related field
Functional Skills:
Must-Have Skills:
- Strong architectural design and modeling skills
- Extensive knowledge of MuleSoft Platform including experience as a dedicated platform administrator, specifically, experience with:
- AWS infrastructure and services
- MuleSoft on-premises/Cloud setup and administration
- Experience with system integration, IT infrastructure
- Hands-on experience building APIs using Java, DataWeave, and Mule 4
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes for managing API workloads and container orchestration
- Experience working in agile methodology, including Product Teams and Product Development models
- Strong solution design and problem-solving skills
Integration Architect
- API Design: Ability to design and develop well-structured and documented APIs.
- Integration Patterns: Understanding of common integration patterns and their application.
- Integration Technologies: Familiarity with integration platforms, protocols, and standards (e.g., ESB, REST, SOAP), specifically MuleSoft.
- Data Mapping: Experience in mapping data between different systems and applications.
- Security: Understanding of API security best practices and standards.
Good-to-Have Skills:
- Hands-on Linux administration and scripting skills (bash, shell, or Python)
- Experience in the pharmaceutical or life sciences industry with regulated data environments
- Agile delivery experience and proficiency with tools like JIRA, Confluence, and ServiceNow
Professional Certifications
- Mulesoft Integration Architect I or Mulesoft Platform Architect I Certifications (required)
- Cloud certifications (AWS Certified Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer, etc.) (preferred)
- Linux Administration or DevOps-related certifications (preferred)
Soft Skills:
- Excellent critical-thinking and problem-solving skills
- Good communication and collaboration skills
- Demonstrated awareness of how to function in a team setting
- Demonstrated awareness of presentation skills
