Position Summary

Amgen is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Senior Associate – US Direct – State & Local Tax to join our Hyderabad Innovations Facility, part of Amgen’s dynamic Global Capability Center (GCC) network. This role is essential in supporting a global biopharmaceutical organization and is focused on U.S. Direct state and local tax compliance, Country-by-Country Reporting (CbCR), and tax provision activities.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in multistate tax compliance and OECD BEPS-aligned reporting and contribute to broader U.S. tax compliance efforts through timely and accurate execution. The position reports directly to the Senior Tax Manager based in Hyderabad and will collaborate closely with U.S.-based Tax Managers and Senior Managers.

Roles & Responsibilities

The Senior Associate – US Direct State and Local Tax will be responsible for several activities including but not limited to the following:

State and Local Tax Compliance & Provision (Primary Focus)

  • Preparation and self-review of quarterly state estimated payments for income and franchise, supporting calculations, and updating payment vouchers in accordance with jurisdiction-specific requirements.
  • Maintaining and optimizing Alteryx workflows for state apportionment, ensuring accurate data processing for sales by state.
  • Submit state tax payments electronically or by paper, ensuring compliance with applicable rules.
  • Research and resolve state and local tax notices in coordination with internal stakeholders and tax authorities.
  • Support quarterly and annual state tax provision calculations, including state payable/receivable, return to provision, and state effective rate workpaper under ASC 740.
  • Prepare and file Country-by-Country Reporting (CbCR) documentation (Form 8975) in compliance with OECD BEPS standards.
  • Prepare and maintain business license and annual report filings across various U.S. jurisdictions, including compiling required documentation, ensuring compliance with filing deadlines, and tracking the status of all submissions in a centralized system
  • Maintain an organized state library of supporting workpapers and calculations.
  • Recommend and support automation initiatives to improve efficiency in US Direct state and local and CbCR compliance processes.

Broader U.S. Tax Compliance

  • Assist in preparation and review of U.S. Federal and international tax forms
  • Support additional compliance and reporting obligations as needed.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Compliance

  • Collaborate with global tax, finance, and accounting teams to gather data, analyze results, and meet tax compliance deadlines.
  • Track and monitor filing deadlines using internal compliance systems.
  • Ensure adherence to process controls and contribute to a strong compliance culture within the tax organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in U.S. tax compliance, with a focus on state and local tax.
  • Hands-on experience preparing and filing U.S. State and Local tax returns, quarterly estimated payments, and business license renewals
  • Familiarity with CbCR requirements and Form 8975 filings.
  • Experience supporting a multinational tax function within a Shared Services or Global Capability Center (GCC) environment.

Technical Skills:

  • Experience with CorpTax, ONESOURCE, or GoSystem.
  • Alteryx, Tableau; including experience automating tax processes and workflows.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, data validation)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Chartered Accountant (CA), CPA, or MBA in Finance/Taxation from a reputed institution
  • Experience supporting US Direct State and Local tax compliance for a U.S.-based multinational or with a Big 4 accounting firm.
  • Understanding of U.S. multistate apportionment and nexus rules
  • Prior experience in biotechnology, life sciences, or pharmaceutical sectors is preferred.
