Amgen, a global biotechnology leader, is investing $1 billion to expand in Holly Springs, North Carolina, by adding a second drug substance biomanufacturing plant. This brings the total site investment to over $1.5 billion, building on the initial $550 million that launched the first plant. The site will feature two manufacturing facilities, warehouse space, central utilities, and offices, generating around 725 skilled jobs and fostering a culture of diversity, inclusion, and belonging.

Join Amgen’s most advanced drug substance manufacturing facility. The FleX Batch facility and its two manufacturing plants will blend the latest in single-use technologies with traditional stainless-steel equipment, delivering maximum operational flexibility. It will incorporate cutting-edge manufacturing technologies and embedded Industry 4.0 capabilities for greater efficiency and adaptability. Sustainability is also central—innovations will reduce carbon emissions and waste, supporting Amgen’s goal to be carbon-neutral by 2027.

The first plant is expected to be operational in 2025, with construction of the second beginning the same year and operations starting in 2028. This is an exciting chance for individuals eager to build from the ground up, develop talent, and help shape the future of sustainable biomanufacturing.
