Amgen UK

The UK is one of Amgen's most important sites. With approximately 700 staff, it is one of the largest sites outside of our headquarters in California and the European hub for research and development. Amgen's UK commercial and R&D operations are located in Cambridge and Uxbridge.

People who work for Amgen in the UK show up not only to be a member of a function or department, but to be an active link in an ecosystem connected by something greater. No matter where an individual contribution sits on the journey which turns molecules to medicines, every day our people feel accountable for ensuring their piece of the puzzle is delivered with excellence and pride.

Amgen Cambridge

Located less than an hour away from London by train, Cambridge is one of England's most beautiful cities. Set in the Cambridgeshire countryside, the city is home to 31 university colleges, some of them dating back to the twelfth century.

Thanks to the University, Cambridge has a world-famous reputation for science. From the likes of Sir Isaac Newton and Charles Darwin to Stephen Hawking, some of the great scientific discoveries have been made at Cambridge. The pioneering DNA work of Crick and Watson was another Cambridge first, which opened the door for today's genetic scientists, including those at Amgen.

Amgen first established a presence on the Cambridge Science Park more than 25 years ago. Today, Cambridge still remains at the forefront of science and is one of Europe's most important biotechnology clusters.

Amgen Uxbridge

Amgen opened another Development Centre in Uxbridge in 2007. Uxbridge is located in the heart of the biopharma community of west London. It is ideally situated for easy access to all that central London has to offer.

Uxbridge is a thriving town with all the facilities that you would expect from a London satellite: cinema, clubs, theatres, restaurants, art galleries, and much more. Uxbridge also boasts a significant and growing business population and is conveniently located just 15 minutes from Heathrow Airport.

Dublin

Our commercial team is based in Santry, North Dublin, and comprises sales, marketing, medical and market access functions.

With a focus on a diverse portfolio that includes general medicine, oncology, biosimilars, and rare disease medicines, our colleagues are committed to providing access to patients.

Working in partnership with the health service, healthcare professionals, and patient groups, they are passionate about shaping a favourable medicines access environment in Ireland.

Where Connection Inspires Impact

At Amgen, there's something extraordinary about what happens when people connect with purpose. Engagement Day is one of many ways our employees innovate, support one another, and stay inspired in our mission to serve patients.

MEET OUR PEOPLE

Russell Abberley

Vice President and General Manager, UK & Ireland

"I joined Amgen in 2018 having held a range of previous sales and marketing roles across the industry at a UK, European and Global level. The path to my current role, involved heading both the General Medicine and Biosimilars business in the UK, expanding my understanding of what makes Amgen a fantastic place to grow and make a difference. Now, as a Vice President and General Manager for the UK and Ireland, I lead a dynamic team dedicated to enabling patient access in these regions. The role is exhilarating, as I have the privilege of working with so many passionate individuals driven by Amgen's mission to serve patients - not just the core 'engine' of the business in sales, marketing, access and medical, but also the surrounding operational functions which enable our growth and make the customer experience the best it can be.

Our unique community in the UK&I includes a significant R&D presence and corporate functions, all collaborating to build robust evidence for our medicines, ensuring successful approvals and patient access. With a culture of empowerment and 'high trust, high challenge,' we are optimistic about the future and the profound impact our work can have on millions of lives."

Chris Walker

Vice President, Regulatory Affairs

"Since joining Amgen in 2005, I have held multiple roles in regulatory affairs. As the Head of Regulatory Affairs for Europe, LATAM, MEA, and Canada, and Head of R&D for the UK sites. I have the privilege of working with many talented colleagues across the organisation.

The UK is Amgen Europe's largest Hub for R&D and our cross-functional teams strive to deliver breakthroughs that change patients' lives. Innovation and science are at the heart of Amgen's culture, and in the UK and Ireland, our diverse teams in research and development, the commercial affiliate, and our corporate functions, collaborate every day putting everything into the work they do to drive our mission to serve patients.

As a leader my role involves crafting and executing regional regulatory strategies while collaborating with the medical R&D team to advance our portfolio. I also partner with head of the UK and Ireland affiliate, as well as regional and global leaders, to inspire our people and foster a sense of community through employee engagement activities. This role is incredibly rewarding, and I believe everyone at Amgen contributes to our shared mission to shape the future for our company and for patients."

Nicola Duffy

Sr. Director Global Clinical Program Management

"I have been with Amgen for 15 years and I'm driven by my passion for bringing innovative drugs to market and enhancing global health. Working in Clinical Program Operations is incredibly rewarding largely due to the environment of excellence and industry leadership, and the talented, diverse team that makes Amgen an amazing workplace. Our 'one team' culture emphasizes trust, respect, inclusiveness, and belonging, which are essential for delivering effective clinical trials.

As a leader, I find immense satisfaction in developing my team and witnessing their growth across the organisation is really fulfilling.

Amgen's career development programs have significantly impacted my own professional journey. The 12-18 month lateral moves to different departments have broadened my skills, and participation in secondments has equipped me with the confidence and experience to pursue senior roles within the organization.

The hybrid working model at Amgen has also been beneficial to my career as it offers flexibility, allowing me to adjust my schedule as needed to balance family and work responsibilities efficiently."

Lewis Egal

Market Access Manager

"My role as a Healthcare Solutions Manager at Amgen is incredibly rewarding. One of my favourite aspects of my role is co-creating solutions with our NHS partners, which allow access to our innovative medicines and positively impact patients' lives. Hearing patient stories about how our collaborative projects have made a difference in their lives is truly fulfilling.

Growing my career at Amgen has been a transformative journey, particularly as there is a strong dedication to professional and personal growth across the company. My manager and director prioritise development in our discussions and have supported me through courses that bolster my skills for current and future roles. A standout experience was my secondment into the NHS for the lung cancer liquid biopsy project in Wales. This opportunity has greatly enriched my expertise, and I'm proud to contribute to a project that will have a lasting impact on patients in Wales.

The hybrid working model has been particularly beneficial for my career development, allowing me to balance work commitments and personal duties, especially after welcoming our first child, making it easier to maintain a healthy work-life balance."

Mishi Abbasi

Marketing Manager

"As an Omnichannel Strategy Lead at Amgen, I'm passionate about driving impactful customer engagement. The blend of strategic planning, creative execution, and operational excellence makes my role interesting, and each day brings new challengesfrom evaluating tech platforms to organising educational events. I recently received the Operational Impact Award for my leadership efforts in digital channels and compliance, which was a proud moment for me.

One of the best things about working at Amgen is not just the commitment to personal growth, but also employee wellbeing. The flexibility of hybrid working alongside wellness days and weekly mindfulness have been vital for clearing my mind, reducing stress, and boosting my creativity and productivity.

The most fulfilling aspect of my job is how Amgen's medicines transform patients' lives, as these stories give my work deeper purpose. Working alongside incredibly talented colleagues in a supportive environment constantly inspires me and enhances my skills—I genuinely look forward to Mondays!"

Robin Sandman

Sr. Associate, Finance

"I'm a Sr. Associate in Finance at Amgen, but my role is not just about the numbers! It involves working cross-functionally and contributing to strategic decisions by providing insights which drive business performance and support our mission to serve patients. It also includes optimizing processes and enabling efficiency through automation, which is really satisfying. However, the most fulfilling part of my job is knowing that my work supports Amgen's ability to invest in innovation and deliver life-changing medicines.

Amgen's culture of learning and development has really supported my growth through upskilling, mentorship, and professional qualifications. Mentoring and knowledge-sharing, especially through the Amgen Early Career Professionals (AECP) Employee Resource Group, which I co-founded, has been very rewarding. Developing my skills in Robotic Process Automation (RPA) led me to winning an Affiliate Award for Impactful Innovation in 2023. Amgen has also supported my professional studies and selected me for the Future Leaders Development Program, which included external coaching and mentoring.

I joined Amgen as a placement student in 2017 and became a permanent staff member in February 2022. This journey has deepened my appreciation for Amgen's culture and development opportunities, and I'm excited to continue growing within the company."

Nicholas Pillay

Regulatory Affairs Sr. Manager

"As a Sr. Manager in Regulatory Affairs, I really enjoy the dynamic environment I work in, collaborating closely with my cross-functional colleagues in R&D, clinical development, quality, and marketing to overcome challenges, such as addressing regulatory hurdles and aligning on submission strategies. I love the team working aspect, as together, we ensure Amgen's therapies are safe and effective for patients, and knowing my work directly impacts patients' health and can be lifesaving is hugely motivating.

There is a strong culture of growth at Amgen and there are continuous learning opportunities , which have been important for my own personal development particularly as regulatory guidelines and therapeutics technologies constantly evolve. I've been lucky enough to gain experience across two different therapeutic areas, which has further increased my specialist knowledge within the regulatory landscape.

One of the things I value most about working at Amgen, is the trust and flexibility to work in different environments based on our own needs and preferences. Having the option to choose when to work from the office or home helps me optimize my time and work efficiently to deliver against my priorities, particularly when I am collaborating with colleagues in multiple time zones. It also enables me to have a good work/life balance and ensure I have time for my family and relaxation, which I really value."

Ruth Lynch

Product Manager

"I joined Amgen with a background in sales, however, as a Product Manager I've really been able to hone my marketing skills. Amgen has a strong commitment to marketing and capability development, tailoring annual programs and courses to upskill marketers, which has been great for my own development. In just three years, I've developed my skills and helped shape our Oncology brand strategies, collaborating closely with stakeholders to ensure we meet patient needs.

Our mission at Amgen is all about serving patients, and that's something I'm passionate about. The research aspect of my role is extremely fulfilling as understanding the disease are and the patients affected, is important to inform our product positioning. Although I'm not directly involved with patients, I know our marketing efforts help ensure the right treatments are available at the right time, and seeing the positive impact on patients' lives, their families, and communities is truly rewarding.

Amgen's hybrid working is one of the best work environments I've experienced. It eliminates the stress of a long commute and gives me more time to complete my work responsibilities, enhancing my productivity and output. Personally, it allows me to enjoy family life more when the workday ends. This commitment to its employees shows how Amgen is considerate of us not just as employees, but as people with interests and responsibilities outside of work. Amgen truly is a great place to work!."

Joe Murnane

Associate Director, Business Unit

"One of the most motivating aspects of my role at Amgen is working with and leading a team of talented individuals in a fast-paced, complex commercial environment. The challenge of working in the biosimilars space and with mature brands ensures we think innovatively to deliver award-winning projects and direct-to-patient campaigns, which are recognised across the ELMAC region through the Amgen leap awards.

Mentorship and coaching have always been important to me, and my professional growth as a leader has been the most fulfilling part of my role. I've been able to utilize my own learning to mentor and coach my team. Seeing them pass their individual development goals has been very rewarding. I have been lucky enough to work with exceptional leaders who have given their time and experience to support my own development. I have also had the chance to learn through one of Amgen's talent and marketing excellence programs, which has enriched my thinking and given me an opportunity to learn from others across the Amgen business.

Most importantly, working in a busy leadership role means it can be difficult to balance work and personal life, however, the hybrid working approach at Amgen is a game changer. Not only has it allowed my to reduce my commute and enhance collaboration, at the same time it's enabling me to find time to coach my kids to play hurling, a traditional Irish field sport, passing on the game to a new generation."
