Sr Engineer Clean Utilities

What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will report to the Sr Manager of the ARI Facilities & Engineering Utilities engineering group. The position is related to system ownership of the utilities systems at ARI. The engineer is responsible for supporting day-to-day operations to ensure a safe, compliant, effective, efficient, and cost appropriate utility operations at ARI. It is also responsible for meeting Amgen’s 2027 sustainability commitments.

Responsibilities include:

The Senior Utilities Engineer provides technical leadership and engineering oversight for clean utility systems supporting GMP manufacturing operations. This role serves as the technical owner for systems such as Purified Water (PUR), Water for Injection (WFI), Clean Steam, and Process Gases, ensuring system reliability, compliance, and lifecycle management. The position partners with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, Validation, and Capital Projects to support safe, reliable, and efficient utility operations.

Key Responsibilities

Clean Utility System Ownership

·Serve as the technical subject matter expert for assigned clean utility systems.

·Monitor system performance, reliability, and compliance to ensure consistent operation.

·Provide technical support for troubleshooting, investigations, and operational issues.

·Develop and maintain engineering standards, specifications, and system documentation.

Asset Management and CMMS (Maximo)

·Lead asset lifecycle management activities for utility systems.

·Develop, optimize, and maintain preventive maintenance strategies within Maximo.

·Maintain asset records, equipment hierarchies, job plans, and maintenance documentation.

·Analyze maintenance and reliability data to improve asset performance and reduce downtime.

Capital Projects and Engineering Support

·Lead utility-related capital projects from design through commissioning and turnover.

·Develop technical requirements, specifications, and engineering assessments.

·Support startup, commissioning, qualification, and operational readiness activities.

·Coordinate project activities with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, and external contractors.

Compliance and Continuous Improvement

·Support change controls, deviations, investigations, and CAPA activities impacting utility systems.

·Ensure utility systems remain compliant with GMP requirements and site standards.

·Identify and implement improvements that enhance reliability, efficiency, sustainability, and operational performance.

·Support regulatory inspections, audits, and validation activities as the engineering representative.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma / GED & 10 years of directly related experience OR

  • Associate’s degree & 8 years of directly related experience OR

  • Bachelor’s degree & 4 years of directly related experience OR

  • Master's degree and 2 years directly related experience OR

  • Doctorate degree

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience within a utilities' plant within industry, especially with water systems.

  • Experience with GMP

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Knowledge of engineering principles, methods and practices.

  • Basic understanding of cGMPs as applied to biotechnology products.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
