What you will do

In this vital role, you will serve as the lead communications counselor responsible for strategic communications across Amgen's Development organization and pipeline portfolio. You will partner closely with Development senior leadership to shape and execute communications strategies that build understanding of Amgen's Development organization, clinical pipeline, and leadership in drug development.
You will combine scientific understanding, strategic communications, and compelling storytelling to build confidence in Amgen's scientific innovation and clinical pipeline while elevating executive visibility, advancing scientific thought leadership, and strengthening enterprise reputation.
This position reports to the Executive Director, Corporate Affairs, Research & Development.
Responsibilities
Lead the communications strategy for Amgen's Development organization and pipeline portfolio, developing integrated plans that strengthen understanding of scientific innovation, clinical progress, and the company's leadership in drug development.
Serve as the trusted communications advisor to the Development Senior Leadership Team, providing strategic counsel on executive visibility, organizational communications, business priorities, change initiatives, and issues management.
Shape enterprise pipeline communications across the clinical development lifecycle, developing compelling scientific narratives that build confidence in Amgen's pipeline and support key development, regulatory, and corporate milestones.
Champion the Development story by translating complex science into clear, engaging communications that showcase Amgen's innovation, clinical leadership, and long-term impact for patients across therapeutic areas.
Partner across Corporate Affairs and the enterprise, including Research, Global Medical, Clinical Development, Regulatory, Commercial, Investor Relations, and Product and Portfolio Communications to ensure aligned messaging, coordinated milestone communications, and seamless transitions from development through commercialization.
Lead and develop a high-performing team while managing agency partners and external resources to deliver measurable communications outcomes, foster innovation, and continuously improve strategic impact.

Basic Qualifications
Doctorate degree and 4 years of communications or public relations experience
OR
Master's degree and 7 years of communications or public relations experience
OR
Bachelor's degree and 9 years of communications or public relations experience
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Life Sciences, or a related field.
Experience in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, or a related scientific industry, with a strong understanding of drug development and the clinical development lifecycle.
Experience leading strategic communications for complex scientific, regulatory, or business initiatives within a matrixed organization.
Demonstrated success serving as a trusted communications advisor to senior executives, including developing executive communications and thought leadership strategies.
Strong understanding of scientific communications and the ability to translate complex science into compelling narratives for diverse internal and external audiences.
Experience developing and executing communications strategies supporting pipeline milestones, scientific innovation, and organizational priorities.
Exceptional writing, storytelling, presentation, and executive communications skills.
Proven ability to influence senior leaders, navigate ambiguity, exercise sound judgment, and manage multiple high-priority initiatives simultaneously.
Strong business acumen and the ability to align communications strategies with organizational and enterprise objectives.
Demonstrated ability to build trusted partnerships and collaborate effectively across Development, Research, Medical, Commercial, Corporate Affairs, Investor Relations, and other cross-functional teams.
Experience leading, coaching, and developing communications professionals while managing agency partners and external vendors to deliver measurable business impact.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
