Advocacy Relations Senior Manager, Inflammation
What you will do

In this vital role, the Senior Manager of Advocacy Relations, Inflammation will lead Amgen’s external engagement and patient advocacy strategy across a dynamic and evolving therapeutic area, with a focus on pipeline development and patient-centered innovation in lupus, refractory rheumatoid arthritis, and other related autoimmune conditions.
This individual will cultivate and maintain long-term, trust-based relationships with global and national patient organizations, elevate the patient voice across the product lifecycle, and help position Amgen as a valued partner within the inflammation community.
This role will report to the Director, Advocacy Relations, Inflammation, and will be based in the U.S., with domestic and possible international travel expected.
Key responsibilities include:
Build and nurture strong, compliant, and meaningful partnerships with advocacy organizations in inflammation, including lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and other autoimmune disease communities.
Develop and execute advocacy strategy plans aligned with internal cross-functional goals and therapeutic area priorities.
Integrate patient and caregiver perspectives into Amgen’s pipeline strategies, clinical trial design, and early development initiatives.
Champion and lead meaningful engagement with patients and advocacy organizations to inform research and development programs, pioneering a patient-centric approach by integrating community feedback and insights into clinical development strategies and decision-making.
Drive aligned goals across the inflammation landscape including awareness-building, access, and shared decision-making in healthcare.
Represent Amgen in relevant coalitions, taskforces, and medical congresses to elevate the voice and needs of autoimmune patient communities.
Coordinate with internal stakeholders (Medical Affairs, R&D, Value & Access, Policy, Corporate Affairs, Marketing) to ensure cohesive patient-informed strategies.
Partner with the Patient Voices team to identify and support patients and caregivers in sharing their experiences, ensuring these stories inform external and internal initiatives.
Create and manage high-quality patient story assets (video, photography, written testimonials), ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
What we expect of you

Basic Qualifications:
Doctorate degree and 2 years of advocacy, policy, marketing, or medical experience
Or
Master’s degree and 4 years of advocacy, policy, marketing, or medical experience
Or
Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of advocacy, policy, marketing, or medical experience
Or
Associate’s degree and 10 years of advocacy, policy, marketing, or medical experience
Or
High school diploma / GED and 12 years of advocacy, policy, marketing, or medical experience
Preferred Qualifications:
5+ years of experience with advocacy organizations or patient engagement in autoimmune/inflammatory diseases
3+ years of experience liaising with patient organizations in a global pharmaceutical/biotech environment.
Proven ability to build high-trust, transparent, and collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders.
Experience developing and executing advocacy strategies tied to pipeline and early-stage products.
Familiarity with the regulatory and compliance environment governing patient interactions.
Demonstrated reputation internally and externally as a well-respected, dynamic team-player.
Empathic and hardworking individual with the ability to build meaningful connections with stakeholders.
Experience working with national and international patient advocacy groups and non-governmental organizations
Sensitivity to diverse groups of people both internal and external with the ability to manage many different opinions and perspectives, including tolerance for ambiguity.
Strong project management and cross-functional collaboration capabilities.
Ability to translate complex medical and scientific information into compelling narratives.
Skilled in integrating patient insights into policy, access, and clinical development strategies.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
