Role: Patient Access Navigator – Rare Disease
Reports to: Senior Manager, Patient Access
Location: Ontario Remote Worker
What you will do
Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will provide logistical, non-medical educational assistance to patients and caregivers as well as office and site of care staff, including physicians, nurses, office managers and executives. Strong knowledge and demonstrated history of access and reimbursement for biologic/biosimilar products is required. The PAN works in a highly visible, strong team environment to provide exceptional customer service at all levels. The PAN will work with the patient, the physician and the Site of Care to educate on next steps required to gain access to therapy. The PAN will also work to maintain relationships with patients families, caregivers and by extension physicians and their staff along with cross-functional partners to support ongoing compliance with therapy. The PAN will also work with numerous internal teams, including Market Access, Medical Affairs, Advocacy, Marketing, and Site of Care to facilitate and improve patient access to insurance, medications, financial support, resources and more.
- Secure written or electronic patient consent to Amgen Entrust Rare for patients in the assigned geography to enroll and on-board patients to the program
- Liaise with patient’s relevant health care providers to support patient’s access to therapy and reimbursement support services
- Logistical, non-medical educational assistance to patients and caregivers as well as office and site of care staff, including physicians, nurses and/or office managers
- Provide proactive education to prescribers and sites of care upon patient enrollment on coverage for Amgen rare disease therapies, common prior authorization requirements as required
- Demonstrate in depth knowledge of the rare disease program including pathophysiology of the disease and product, therapeutic area, disease process and mechanism of action
- Responsible for supporting patients to navigate reimbursement access for their prescribed Amgen therapy, including, reimbursement investigation, facilitating insurance coverage documentation, coordination of benefits, & financial assistance
- Coordinate Bridging and/or Free of Charge Goods (FOCG) for patients who meet eligibility criteria
- Coordination with other approved Amgen 3rd Party Patient Service Providers to support: Schedule lab testing at the request of a prescribing HCP, Coordinate and/or scheduling injection training resources, Coordinate infusion services
- Adhere to Amgen pharmacovigilance policy for reporting AEs and PCs
- Be able to partner with Patient Advocacy Sr Manager at Amgen around Patient Advocacy groups and associations
- Partner with Safety and PV and report AE’s and product complaints through medical information
- Experience with Salesforce and/or other relevant CRM systems; Windows based applications (e.g. WORD, EXCEL, Outlook)
- Organized and detail-oriented with strong service mindset
- Multi-tasking, prioritization and proactive problem-solving abilities
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proven ability to collaborate and work in teams and synergistically with Amgen’s Patient Services Team including cross-functional partners who have roles supporting the patient journey, third Party vendor and other decentralized PSP partners
- Role includes ~70% travel to meet customers
- Support the telephony queue of the Amgen Entrust Rare program

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree
Or
College diploma and 2+ years of patient support/reimbursement experience or 3 years of relevant work experience in a “high service culture”
Preferred Qualifications:
- Scientific background and ability to learn product and disease information.
- Nursing or other clinical background
- Orphan or Rare disease and reimbursement experience
- Familiarity with HIPAA guidelines and Health Canada requirements
- Ability to handle difficult patient cases and to come with solutions/best practices
- Ability to work in a team environment and manage communication with patient access navigator colleagues, Sales reps and Site of Care leads
- Ability to respond immediately when necessary (within 24 hours) to prevent lapses in treatment
- French/English Bi-lingual
- Strong analytical skills and strategic mindset
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Professional, proactive demeanor
- Strong interpersonal skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability and willingness to conduct field travel, as well as to travel to company meetings, client sites, etc. including some overnight and weekend travel (~70%)
- Knowledge of English is essential for frequent communication with vendors, inhouse Patient services team and customers.
- Willingness to travel ~70% of the time to meet with HCPs at clinics and hospitals
