What you will do

  • We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Supply Chain Manager to join the Amgen External Planning (AXP) organization. Reporting to the Senior Manager Supply Chain, this role will drive planning and delivery of commercial products and new product introductions, tech transfers (NPI/TT) at Amgen’s Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMO) in Japan and other JAPAC region.

Key Responsibilities: 
The AXP Supply Chain Manager is responsible for: 

  • Lead demand, supply, inventory, and capacity planning activities using SAP and Kinaxis RapidResponse.
  • Support Amgen’s Integrated Business Processes at the site level, including Plan-to-Stock and Order-to-Cash handoff processes with CMOs.
  • Translate forecasts into executable production and material plans.
  • Manage NPI and technology transfer supply chain integration activities.
  • Ensure raw materials, components, and finished goods availability.
  • Develop operational dashboards, KPIs, and business insights.
  • Partner with Quality, Finance, Operations, Commercial, and external CMOs.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives and supply chain transformation projects
  •  Ensure implementation and maintenance of required operating standards.

The AXP Supply Chain Manager will carry out the following activities per established business processes and procedures.

These tasks may vary according to the product portfolio:

Production Planning 

  • Develop monthly demand and supply forecast, facilitate internal and external forecast discussions.
  • Evaluate short-term and long-term capacity constraints and managing risk.
  • Translate demand into executable production plans.
  • Coordinate with CMO to develop finite production schedule including sampling and testing. 
  • Manage product and material allocation to ensure FEFO and avoid scraps.
  • Define priorities and accelerate operation process to meet demand needs. 
  • Execute production and material transfer orders in SAP.
  • Generate and manage process and purchase orders.
  • Review and approve invoices.

Material Management:

  • Coordinate new master data, BOM creation and obsoletion.  
  • Determine order policies such as order quantity, order cadence, and safety stock level.  
  • Ensure sufficient raw material, component and product supply to CMO.
  • Ensure CMO procured sufficient raw material or components to support operation needs.
  • Develop mitigation plans in the event of supply risk
  • Manage purchase orders and resolve issues with vendors and internal sites.
  • Plan for storage and space requirements.

Logistics Management:

  • Coordinate shipment booking, tracking, and logistics coordination for commercial, clinical, and sample shipments
  • Coordinate new lane setup activities and develop new shipment processes for continuous improvement 
  • Partner with Thermal Engineer to select or qualify new shippers for GMP product shipments
  • Partner with Global Distribution team to investigate and resolve shipment related issues
  • Monitor logistics KPIs and support transportation risk mitigation activities
  • Drive cost savings initiatives and ensure operating within budget

Data Analysis & Operational Insights

  • Analyze supply chain, planning, inventory, and logistics data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities 
  • Monitor and manage lead-time variability, supply reliability, and inventory reconciliation activities.
  • Develop dashboards, KPIs, and operational metrics to support decision-making
  • Support the adoption of digital tools and automation initiatives that improve planning efficiency and data visibility. 
  • Standardize planning processes and operational metrics across the AXP network. 
  • Support business continuity planning through scenario analysis and risk assessments. 
  • Identify opportunities to reduce waste, improve cycle times, and optimize inventory through data-driven decision making. 

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Stakeholder Management
Success in this role requires strong collaboration across internal and external stakeholders to ensure reliable supply and operational excellence.

  • Partner closely with Global Supply Chain, Quality, Finance, Operations, Regional, and Technical Operations teams. 
  • Build effective working relationships with Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMOs) and external suppliers. 
  • Communicate supply risks, mitigation plans, and operational performance to stakeholders at multiple organizational levels. 
  • Facilitate alignment between demand forecasts, manufacturing plans, inventory strategies, and business priorities. 
  • Support governance forums, Integrated Business Planning (IBP), and Supply Review processes. 
  • Present operational analyses, recommendations, and business updates to management and cross-functional teams. 

Continuous Improvement & Change Management

  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance supply chain performance and reliability. 
  • Support implementation of new business processes, systems, and planning capabilities. 
  • Drive a culture of accountability, operational excellence, and continuous learning across internal and external partners. 
  • Champion best practices and knowledge sharing within the Amgen External Planning organization.

  • Work is guided by Amgen External Planning and department strategy, operational and project objectives
  • Manages multiple assignments and processes simultaneously
  • Independently determines approach to an initiative, project, or issue

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master’s in Business, Engineering and/or Supply Chain and 2 years of experience in Supply Chain or Manufacturing OR
  • Bachelor's in Business, Engineering and/or Supply Chain and 4 years experience in Supply Chain or Manufacturing

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Established expertise and knowledge of Pharmaceutical/Biotech Supply Chain and GMP processes
  • Strong end-to-end supply chain experience and critical thinking skills 
  • Determined ability to form relationships, collaborate and influence across a multifunctional matrix organization
  • Ability to effect change and build consensus on definitions with groups of individuals 
  • Ability and willingness to understand and represent the total-enterprise perspective
  • Proven ability to lead multiple projects and to be accountable for individual results
  • Organized and achievement oriented to continuously drive performance
  • Experience in SAP and/or RapidResponse ERP environments and detailed operations
  • Digital mindset and interest in growing digital capabilities within our organization
  • Experience in regulated manufacturing or supply chain setting
  • Demonstrated experience in a continuous improvement role utilizing tools, methodologies and change management (i.e. Lean, Six Sigma)
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively engage diverse, global stakeholder groups and manage projects with multiple, cross-functional deliverables
  • Proven communication and facilitation skills
  • Demonstrated strong analytical skills, business acumen and risk management
