Senior Manager EH&S

What you will do

In this vital role you will provide strategic leadership for Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) programs, ensuring operations are conducted safely, sustainably, and in compliance with regulatory requirements while supporting Amgen’s mission to serve patients.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Develop and lead the execution of Environmental Management strategy and priority initiatives for a large and complex site with significant facilities infrastructure supporting manufacturing, research, and process development. 
  • Lead a team of Site EHS Program Managers to ensure responsible management of Air Quality, Regulated Waste, Hazardous Materials Transportation, Water Quality and other emerging environmental topics. 
  • Drive continuous improvement, innovation, and digital enablement of environmental management systems. 
  • Participate in the design, assessment, and implementation of compliant and sustainable new and modified facilities and processes. 
  • Monitor emerging and changing environmental regulations and risks and translate them into actionable site compliance strategies. 
  • Liaise with regulatory agency representatives, suppliers and other external stakeholders. 
  • Integrate with Engineering, Operations, and EHS teams to execute compliance programs, solve complex challenges, and align practices across the network. 
  • Investigate environmental incidents to understand operational context and implement resilient corrective and preventive barriers. 
  • Prepare EHS governance dashboards and provide guidance and expertise to functional leadership. 
  • Lead the site Hazmat response program supported by multiple functions across the campus. 

What we expect of you

We are all different, yet we all use our unique contributions to serve patients. The Senior Manager EH&S professional we seek is a strategic and collaborative manager leader with these qualifications.

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 2 years of EH&S experience 

OR 

Master’s degree and 4 years of EH&S experience 

OR 

Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of EH&S industry experience 

Or 

Associate’s degree and 10years of EH&S industry experience 

Or 

High School diploma / GED and 12 years of EH&S industry experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree or advanced degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. 
  • Experience leading environmental compliance programs within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or other highly regulated industries. 
  • Experience evaluating emerging environmental regulations and developing compliance strategies. 
  • Experience supporting environmental risk assessment for capital projects, including wastewater permitting and treatment system design review. 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and effectively influence senior stakeholders. 
  • Experience with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001), digital EHS platforms, and continuous improvement methodologies.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
