Senior Director, Strategic Data Partnerships and Purchases, Obesity
What You Will Do
Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this role, you will provide strategic leadership for data, analytics, and innovation in support of Amgen’s Obesity franchise. This role is accountable for shaping franchise-level data partnerships and purchases, advancing analytics and AI capabilities, and translating complex information into insights that drive clear strategic and tactical decisions.
Operating with a high degree of autonomy, you will partner closely with senior and executive leaders across Commercial, Finance, Market Access, Medical, and other functions. You will lead teams and influence across the matrix to data partnerships and purchases enable both near-term performance and long-term franchise success.
This is a Flexible Commuter role based at the Thousand Oaks, CA campus, with an expectation of at least 3 days per week on-site.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Data Partnerships
Lead the end-to-end data strategy for the Obesity partnerships, ensuring alignment with brand strategy, lifecycle planning, and enterprise priorities
- Translate business strategy into a clear data roadmap, identify and onboard data needed for the obesity brand and cross functional team
- Provide an objective perspective to senior leadership on data requirements
- Clearly communicate needs and timelines
- Work with the cross functional team to QC data and ensure data quality
Innovation, AI & Suppliers
- Identify and advance opportunities to identify AI and new suppliers to improve market research, forecasting, segmentation, targeting, performance management, and decision speed
- Partner with internal and external stakeholders to pilot, scale, and embed innovative data solutions into standard ways of working
- Continuously scan the external landscape for emerging data sources, tools, and best practices relevant to obesity and general medicine
Leadership & Talent Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop high-performing leaders and teams, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Provide direction and prioritization across multiple concurrent initiatives, ensuring resources are aligned to the highest-value franchise needs
- Serve as a role model for enterprise leadership behaviors, influencing without authority across a complex, matrixed organization
Cross-Functional Partnership & Governance
- Build strong, trusted partnerships with Marketing, Finance, Market Access, Medical, IT, and other functions to shape strategy and drive execution
- Ensure data governance, integrity, and compliance, including adherence to legal, regulatory, and SOP requirements across internal teams and external vendors
- Own critical obesity-related data assets, ensuring transparency around assumptions, methodologies, limitations, and appropriate use
- Manage relationships with external vendors and consultants to deliver efficient, high-quality, and scalable analytics solutions

Basic Qualifications
- Doctorate degree and 5 years of analytics, data strategy, or related experience
OR - Master’s degree and 7 years of experience
OR - Bachelor’s degree and 9 years of experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience supporting commercial strategy within General Medicine and/or Obesity
- Proven ability to lead franchise-level or large-scale analytics organizations with measurable business impact
- Strong expertise in secondary data, analytics, and AI-enabled methodologies
- Track record of translating complex insights into clear strategic and tactical actions
- Experience acting as a trusted advisor to senior and executive leadership
- Strong people leadership capabilities, including experience developing managers and future leaders
- Ability to frame and solve ambiguous business problems using structured, data-driven approaches
- Excellent stakeholder management skills across functions and leadership levels
- Exceptional oral, written, and visual communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex concepts for executive audiences
- Ability to influence decisions and outcomes in a highly matrixed environment

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
