OI&A Senior Director, Global Insights
Role Overview
The Senior Director, Global Insights, Obesity will lead the development and delivery of integrated commercial insights that shape the global strategy for Amgen’s obesity portfolio, including MariTide, pipeline assets, and broader therapeutic area opportunities.
This individual will serve as the primary insights partner to the Global Obesity Program and will work closely with Commercial, Global Marketing, Medical, Clinical Development, and Value & Access. The role will establish and lead an integrated insights agenda that connects primary market research, secondary analytics, forecasting, competitive intelligence, and internal knowledge to inform therapeutic area, asset, and evidence-generation strategies.
The Senior Director will be a highly collaborative and influential business partner who can translate complex and evolving business questions into focused learning plans and actionable recommendations. The individual will proactively identify emerging opportunities and risks, challenge established thinking when appropriate, and help senior leaders make objective, evidence-based decisions in an environment characterized by significant uncertainty and rapid market evolution.
This role reports to the Executive Director, Obesity Intelligence & Analytics, Commercial and requires 3 days on campus,
Responsibilities
Serve as the senior insights partner for the Global Obesity Program, developing trusted relationships with global commercial leaders and cross-functional stakeholders across MariTide, pipeline assets, and the broader obesity therapeutic area.
Establish and lead an integrated global insights agenda aligned with therapeutic area priorities, asset strategies, clinical development milestones, commercialization needs, and internal governance decisions.
Lead the design and execution of primary market research across the product lifecycle, including early asset assessment, clinical development, target product profile optimization, positioning, segmentation, launch planning, lifecycle management, and indication expansion.
Integrate primary research, secondary analytics, forecasting, competitive intelligence, advisory boards, real-world evidence, and internal expertise to develop a cohesive understanding of the market and its implications for Amgen.
Partner with Forecasting, Analytics, Competitive Intelligence, Value & Access, Medical, and Clinical Development teams to ensure that insights are translated into aligned assumptions, scenarios, strategic choices, and business recommendations.
Provide insight leadership for obesity therapeutic area strategy, including market development, patient and healthcare professional needs, treatment pathways, competitive evolution, portfolio opportunities, and potential future standards of care.
Develop business cases, scenario analyses, strategic workshops, and senior-level narratives to support portfolio decisions, clinical development plans, investment prioritization, lifecycle strategy, and governance discussions.
Translate complex findings into clear implications and recommendations for senior leadership, including Therapeutic Area leadership, governance committees, and executive-level audiences.
Act as an objective strategic thought partner and constructive challenger, identifying gaps in evidence, testing assumptions, reconciling conflicting information, and introducing alternative perspectives when needed.
Lead stakeholder alignment around key business questions, learning priorities, budgets, work plans, methodologies, and decision timelines across multiple assets and workstreams.
Identify and develop innovative insight-generation approaches, data sources, analytic methods, and external partnerships that strengthen Amgen’s understanding of the obesity market.
Select and manage best-in-class research and consulting partners, ensuring that external work meets expectations for strategic relevance, methodological rigor, quality, timeliness, and budget.
Lead and develop direct reports and cross-functional project teams, building strong strategic, analytical, consulting, and communication capabilities while personally leading select high-priority initiatives.
Ensure that all projects comply with applicable Amgen policies, standard operating procedures, legal and regulatory requirements, and service-level expectations.

Basic Qualifications
Doctorate degree and 5 years of experience in market research, commercial insights, analytics, competitive intelligence, forecasting, strategy, marketing, or a related discipline; OR
Master’s degree and 9 years of experience in market research, commercial insights, analytics, competitive intelligence, forecasting, strategy, marketing, or a related discipline; OR
Bachelor’s degree and 11 years of experience in market research, commercial insights, analytics, competitive intelligence, forecasting, strategy, marketing, or a related discipline; AND
5 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience directing teams, major programs, complex projects, or the allocation of significant resources.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to serve as a strategic advisor to senior commercial, medical, clinical, and cross-functional leaders.
Strong understanding of global drug development, commercialization, portfolio strategy, and the broader healthcare environment, including the perspectives of patients, healthcare professionals, payers, policymakers, and health systems.
Experience supporting early and late-stage assets, therapeutic area strategy, product launches, lifecycle planning, or portfolio investment decisions.
Deep experience leading primary market research and integrating research findings with secondary data, analytics, competitive intelligence, and forecasting.
Strong business acumen, strategic and critical thinking, and the ability to identify the implications of incomplete, complex, or conflicting information.
Ability to frame ambiguous business issues, establish clear hypotheses and learning priorities, and translate evidence into actionable strategic recommendations.
Demonstrated ability to influence decisions without direct authority and align stakeholders with different functional perspectives, priorities, and incentives.
Experience operating across global and local organizations and balancing the needs of therapeutic area, asset, functional, and geographic stakeholders.
Excellent executive communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to simplify complex concepts and clearly articulate implications, choices, risks, and recommendations.
Ability to manage multiple high-priority initiatives simultaneously while maintaining strategic focus, analytical rigor, and strong execution.
Demonstrated people leadership capabilities, including attracting, developing, coaching, and retaining high-performing talent.
Experience within obesity, cardiometabolic disease, or another complex and rapidly evolving therapeutic area is preferred.
The successful candidate will be a commercially oriented insights leader who combines strategic judgment, analytical rigor, stakeholder leadership, and deep curiosity. They will be comfortable operating in ambiguity, constructively challenging assumptions, and helping Amgen make informed choices that strengthen the obesity portfolio and advance the company’s long-term therapeutic area strategy.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
