Associate Scientist - High-Throughput Assays
What you will do
The Automated Screening Platforms/ High-Throughput Assays group in Lead Discovery & Targeted Protein Degradation is seeking an Associate Scientist for a laboratory-based on-site role supporting small molecule hit identification for Amgen Research projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assay deliverer responsible for high-throughput assay implementation, optimization and execution, in partnership with automated platforms operators.
- Conduct in vitro assays in 384 & 1536 microtiter plate-based format, using lab instrumentation and luminescence-based, TR-FRET, Nano-BRET, ALPHA, & high-content imaging assay formats.
- Perform routine mammalian cell culture (expansion, banking and quality-control) and contribute to reagent preparation and curation for screening campaigns.
- Designing, conducting, analyzing, interpreting and reporting in vitro assay results using Amgen’s assay information management applications.
- Ensure accurate and timely record keeping, including documentation in electronic lab notebook and technical reports.
Basic Qualifications:
Master’s degree
OR
Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of scientific research experience in cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related field
Associate’s degree and 4 years of [Job Code’s Discipline and/or Sub-Discipline] experience
OR
High school diploma / GED and 6 years of [Job Code’s Discipline and/or Sub-Discipline] experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated hands-on experience in mammalian cell biology and high-throughput molecular/cellular assay execution, with evidence of strong experimental judgment and troubleshooting ability.
- Preferred candidate will have previous experience with ultra high-throughput (UHTS) laboratory instrumentation (Echo, WDII/PDII, LPR) to deliver on job responsibilities and capacity to broaden technical skills in role.
- Strong organizational, time-management and scientific documentation skills, with the ability to work with moderate discretion and limited supervision while contributing effectively to multidisciplinary project teams.
- Collaborate across teams and contribute to team goals, provide technical guidance to colleagues when appropriate, actively participate and present at team meetings.
- Demonstrated interest or experience in applying AI-enabled scientific tools is highly desirable.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
