Manager, Amgen Ventures Operations, Business Development

Amgen is searching for a Manager, Business Development – Amgen Ventures. The Manager, Amgen Ventures, will support the Head of Amgen Ventures as well as the BioVentures and Digital Venture Leads to comprehensively evaluate and build supportive business cases, as recommendations are made to the Ventures Investment Committee for private equity investments. S/he may be involved in deal sourcing through negotiation and close and may play a role in Ventures portfolio management.

Responsibilities

• Support Amgen BioVentures and Digital Ventures leads in coordinating in-depth scientific and business diligence to develop a strong investment thesis, including solicitation of technical input from our organization and external subject matter experts.

• Drafting informal and formal investment recommendations for presentation to our research division’s Ventures Fund Investment Committee.

• Assisting with all aspects of deal process and definitive document preparation where needed

• Assisting with post-deal management – including support of management, company strategy, and follow-on investment where needed

• Assist in management of LP relationships

• Manage daily operations and tracking of active deal diligence including working with teammates in the scientific, finance, venture capital, legal, project management, and communications groups.

Participate in deal negotiations as needed and shepherd deals through approval processes and to closure.

• Assisting with other fund administrative or operational activities as required by the Amgen Ventures Leadership Team.

Basic Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree in Life Sciences

OR

  • Master’s degree in Biotechnology / Life Sciences or MBA and 2 years of Life Science Venture Capital / Business Development experience

OR

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology / Life Sciences and 4 years of Venture Capital / Business Development experience

OR

  • Associate’s degree and 10 years of Venture Capital / Business Development

Preferred Qualifications

• Two years in an operational venture capital role, or at least 3 years in the biopharmaceutical industry in a business development orientated role.

• Experience in the evaluation and execution of business development deals is preferred but not required, as is a general understanding of equity investing.

• A demonstrated track record of high performance, academically and professionally, is preferred.

• The ability to communicate well, both in oral and written form, is preferred.

• Strong interpersonal skills and a high degree of self-awareness. Industriousness, flexibility, and a high capacity for teamwork.

• Working knowledge of software platforms including Microsoft systems (e.g. Licensing Tracker, Sharepoint, MS Teams and the MS Office Suite), Smartsheet, Tableau, Miro, etc.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
