ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY ENGINEER

WHAT YOU WILL DO

The Engineer will be part of the Engineering Operations and Services (EOS) department with a focus on overall environmental sustainability program management as well as collaboration with other Global and Site Engineering representatives to ensure environmental sustainability remains integrated into business processes.

The responsibilities of the role will include:

- Responsible for overall coordination, status reporting and stability of environmental sustainability project oriented work efforts with particular oversight of environmental sustainability as it applies to the engineering capital project delivery process.  

- Active participation on the team of engineers providing sustainability impact assessments (technical/engineering assessment).

- Responsible for assembling project plans and teamwork assignments, directing and monitoring work efforts, performing quality review, and escalating functional, quality, timeline issues appropriately.

- Responsible for tracking key project milestones and adjusting project plans and/or resources to meet the program needs.

- Responsible for managing the Environmental Sustainability (ES) core team and Internal Steering Committee (ISC) meetings, including attending meetings and tracking agenda and action items.

- Responsible for managing other, varied small-scale environmental sustainability initiatives.

- Supports overall environmental sustainability department program progress against plan.

- Coordinates communication with areas across the enterprise that impact the scope, budget, risk, and resources of the work effort being managed.

- Individual contributor role without human resource management responsibilities (e.g., hiring, performance management).

WHAT WE EXPECT OF YOU

Basic Qualifications:
- Master’s degree OR
- Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of engineering/ scientific experience OR
- Associate’s Degree and 6 years of engineering / scientific experience OR
- High School Diploma / GED and 8 years of engineering / scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications:

- Master’s degree in Engineering, Physical, or Life Sciences

- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering

- Demonstrated behaviors consistent with Amgen’s Values

- Passion and interest in environmental sustainability

- Knowledge of engineering principles (e.g. to determine attainable usage reductions / savings for various energy and water conservation measures

- Ability to lead and deliver results in an interactive matrixed environment

- Strong written and oral communication skills, relationship building, and leadership skills

- Experience with general office software applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

- Program / Project Management Skills

- Ability to develop and support detailed engineering analysis spreadsheets to support project justification, design, development, and capital planning

- Experience or exposure to measurement and verification (M&V) and international measurement and verification protocols such as IPMVP

- Experience working on LEED projects or LEED certification

- Successful completion of EIT with intention to pursue a PE license or equivalent designation

- Experience and / or knowledge of industrial, laboratory, and relevant manufacturing environments and systems including but not limited to: boilers, chilled water plants, refrigeration, compressed air, process heating / cooling, motors, pumps, HVAC, and lighting.
