What you will do
Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. The Forecasting team at Amgen serves as a key partner to Commercial leadership, providing strategic guidance and data-backed insights. As the Executive Director of Forecasting, you will lead a team of 4-5 directors and oversee a total team size of 30-35 individuals. You will be responsible for providing strategic direction, data-driven insights, and scenario-planning guidance to support critical decision-making processes across the organization. This role requires a dynamic leader who can navigate complex environments, foster collaboration, and drive innovation to maximize the commercial success of Amgen's portfolio. The individual in this role will need to skillfully influence and challenge a diverse set of senior stakeholders from Commercial, Access, Medical, Finance, and Manufacturing, while proficiently understanding the nuances of all therapeutic areas Amgen operates in.
Additionally, the Executive Director of US Forecasting at Amgen will play a pivotal role within the CD&A leadership team, collaborating closely with colleagues to ensure alignment and synergies across functions. This individual will work hand-in-hand with leaders from market research, analytics, competitive intelligence, data strategy, marketing investment optimization, and other relevant areas to leverage their insights and expertise in developing comprehensive and accurate forecasts.
By fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing among cross-functional teams, the Executive Director will harness the collective intelligence of the organization to inform strategic decision-making and drive business success. This collaborative approach will not only ensure that forecasts are based on the most up-to-date information and analysis but also facilitate a deeper understanding of market dynamics and competitive landscape.

This position will report into the AVP of CD&A (forecasting and CI) and will be responsible for the following:
Lead and mentor a team of directors to develop transparent, defendable revenue valuations and long-range forecasts for Amgen's portfolio, spanning various therapeutic areas
Collaborate closely with US commercial leaders to understand market dynamics, identify emerging trends, and anticipate future opportunities and challenges
Lead the annual commercial revenue forecast process as well as the monthly performance review process, Latest Estimate (LE)
Responsible for leading and coordinating all commercial analytical approaches utilized; ensures quality of output and recommendations, as well as timeliness and relevance of insights to business questions at hand (i.e., ROI, Marketing Analytics, etc.)
Facilitate discussions with senior leaders to provide unbiased, transparent views of forecasts and associated risks and opportunities for the full Amgen US portfolio, enabling informed decisions on investments and priorities
Function as a catalyst for critical thinking within the forecast team and among senior-level cross-functional partners, rigorously pressure testing and debating assumptions to ensure the forecast's accuracy and reliability
Take a proactive approach to identify and address potential secondary data issues that could impact forecasts and our collective understanding of the business landscape
Demonstrate proficiency in handling secondary data sets such as IQVIA claims, NPA, Xponent, 852/867, etc., to enhance forecasting accuracy and efficacy
Ability to comprehend and articulate both the business and clinical aspects of forecasting, ensuring a holistic understanding of treatment choices and market dynamics beyond baseline trends
Establish aspirational yet achievable revenue targets and provide actionable forecasting. guidance to enable successful commercial launches and go-to-market strategies
Foster a culture of inclusion, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the forecasting team and across the broader organization
Lead team management efforts, including hiring, training, and performance management, to ensure the development and retention of top talent within the forecasting team
Stay ahead of industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in forecasting, analytics, and market research to drive innovation and enhance forecasting capabilities
Proactively identify opportunities to leverage innovative technologies and methodologies to improve forecasting accuracy and efficiency
Provide ongoing training and development opportunities for team members to ensure they remain up to date on relevant technologies and methodologies and continue to evolve with changing industry trends

Basic Qualifications:
Doctorate degree & 6 years of forecasting experience OR
Master’s degree & 10 years of forecasting experience OR
Bachelor’s degree & 12 years of forecasting experience AND
6 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources
Preferred Qualifications:
Leadership in building and developing high-performing teams, with a focus on fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement
Demonstrated ability to quickly establish credibility with and influence senior executives at the SVP/VP level, effectively communicating complex concepts and insights to drive strategic decision-making
Alignment with best practices and a commitment to championing new and innovative methodologies and tools to enhance forecasting capabilities and drive business outcomes
Business acumen with a deep understanding of the context and dynamics of pharmaceutical markets, particularly within relevant disease areas, allowing for informed decision-making and strategic planning.
Experience partnering closely with business leaders to deliver high-quality predictions and insights that guide strategic initiatives, optimize resource allocation, and maximize commercial success
Oral, written, and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts and controversial findings clearly and compellingly to diverse audiences, including senior management and cross-functional stakeholders
Project management experience (planning, prioritization, objective setting, meeting management, and plan execution)
