Senior Data Scientist

DDS is seeking a Senior Data Scientist based in Amgen India to deliver advanced analytics and data science solutions in close partnership with global R&D stakeholders. This role will report to the India Principal Data Scientist and operate as a hands-on individual contributor, with no formal line management responsibilities.
The successful candidate will apply an analytics-first mindset, independently owning analytical problem solving from concept through implementation, while collaborating closely with onshore DDS leadership, business partners, and IS/DTI teams.
Primary Responsibilities
Hands-On Analytics & Solution Delivery
Apply an analytics-first mindset to R&D by designing and delivering advanced analytical solutions using modern statistical, data science, and AI/ML techniques
Independently design, build, implement, launch, and maintain analytical solutions aligned to business strategies, goals, and roadmaps
Serve as a hands-on subject matter expert for data, analytics, and metrics, providing practical, actionable insights to stakeholders
Partner with business stakeholders to understand strategic objectives and translate them into well-scoped analytical approaches
Implement cutting-edge analytics, AI/ML, and automation solutions across R&D use cases
Own delivery of key performance metrics, dashboards, and analytical products, continuously improving efficiency, quality, and scalability
Global Collaboration & Delivery Execution
Collaborate closely with onshore DDS leaders, business partners, and IS/DTI teams to deliver analytics solutions aligned to global DDS standards
Establish active communication with teams across functions and geographies to ensure global alignment and consistent delivery
Participate in regular working-hour overlap with global stakeholders to support effective collaboration, rapid issue resolution, and delivery transparency
Partner with Business Product Owners on requirements gathering, user stories, UAT, deployments, training, and end-user support
Production Support & Run Operations
Own run support for deployed analytics and data science solutions, including monitoring, issue triage, and resolution
Monitor model and pipeline performance, addressing data drift, failures, and degradation
Provide Level 2/3 production support in partnership with IS/DTI and data engineering teams
Maintain analytics solutions through the full lifecycle, from development to steady-state operations
Technical Excellence & Professional Contribution
Develop deep business domain knowledge to understand stakeholder needs, priorities, and long-term strategy
Apply appropriate statistical, predictive, and advanced analytics techniques to answer complex business questions
Contribute to team capability building through technical mentoring, knowledge sharing, and best-practice development, without formal people management responsibility
Ensure all work adheres to Amgen SOPs, data governance, security, and compliance requirements

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree and 8 to 12 years of experience
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in life science, data science, computer science, business administration, or a related field
6+ years of experience delivering analytics platforms, advanced analytics, or data science solutions, preferably within Pharma, Biotech, or a regulated industry
Proven experience independently leading and delivering complex analytics projects end to end
Experience working effectively in globally distributed delivery models, partnering with onshore stakeholders from an offshore location
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and storytelling skills, with the ability to communicate complex concepts to non-technical audiences
Experience applying advanced analytics, AI/ML, GenAI, and statistical techniques to real-world business problems
Proficiency in analytics and visualization tools such as PowerBI, Tableau, Spotfire, or similar
Strong working knowledge of SQL and relational databases (Postgres, MySQL, MSSQL, Oracle, etc.)
Hands-on experience with Databricks, Python, R, Spark, or similar analytics and data science tools
Familiarity with web application development tools (e.g., Shiny, Dash, React)
Working knowledge of version control systems (e.g., Git)
Understanding of cloud platforms and services (e.g., AWS EC2, S3, Redshift, Athena)
Experience with Agile or similar delivery methodologies
Strong time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver independently
