Software Engineer

What you will do

In this vital role you will contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of robust and scalable software solutions that support Amgen’s business and scientific goals. This role demands hands-on engineering ability in modern development environments, problem-solving capability, and close collaboration with product teams, designers, and other engineers.

You will participate in developing both front-end and back-end features, enabling cloud-native and secure-by-design systems, while ensuring high-quality code and scalable architecture. Your work will be central to building platforms that support Amgen’s global operations in a secure, reliable, and efficient manner.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Software Development & Integration

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain applications and services using modern full-stack technologies including TypeScript, Python, and JavaScript.

  • Develop and maintain microservices and serverless functions in distributed architectures.

  • Use AI-assisted tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, GitlabDuo and others) to accelerate code development and improve developer productivity.

  • Work with cloud-native components, API integrations, and CI/CD practices to streamline delivery.

  • Collaborate with DevSecOps and SRE teams to integrate security practices, operational readiness, and tools into the software lifecycle.

Collaboration & Agile Execution

  • Translate business and functional requirements into working, tested, and documented software.

  • Participate in Agile and SAFe delivery processes—including sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, and PI planning—to ensure security and platform reliability are embedded across development cycles.

  • Communicate effectively across teams and engage with QA, DevOps, Product Management, and Security functions.

  • Document technical decisions and contribute to knowledge sharing and mentorship.

Operations & Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in application support, incident management, and root cause analysis.

  • Contribute to performance tuning, scalability enhancements, and cloud cost optimization.

  • Stay informed of emerging technologies, frameworks, and development trends relevant to enterprise software and cloud platforms.

What we expect of you

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master's degree / Bachelor's degree and 5 to 9 years in Computer Science, IT, or related field

  • Hands-on experience developing and deploying applications in cloud-native environments (AWS preferred).

  • Practical experience writing maintainable code in Python, JavaScript, or TypeScript.

  • Exposure to CI/CD tooling and DevOps practices (GitLab, Jenkins, Docker, Git).

  • Familiarity with AI-enhanced development tools and a willingness to adopt automation and intelligent tooling.

  • Exposure to Kubernetes-based environments and monitoring toolchains such as Dynatrace, Grafana, or ELK is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

Must-Have Skills:

  • Proficiency in full-stack software development, with solid understanding of Python, TypeScript and JavaScript.

  • Experience designing and implementing microservices architectures.

  • Practical knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, version control (Git), and deployment automation.

  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs, serverless patterns, and secure coding practices.

  • Exposure to AI tools for code generation, including GitHub Copilot, Amazon CodeWhisperer, or equivalent.

Good-to-Have Skills:

  • Experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).

  • Knowledge of infrastructure as code tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.

  • Familiarity with observability/monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Dynatrace).

  • Interest in LLM integration, generative AI applications, or cloud-native ML operations.

Professional Certifications (Preferred)

  • AWS Certified Developer – Associate or Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer Associate

  • Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD) – for developers working with containerized applications

  • OpenJS Node.js Application Developer (JSNAD) – for backend JavaScript/TypeScript development

  • Scrum Developer Certified (SDC) – demonstrating Agile software engineering practices

Soft Skills:

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in agile and cross-functional environments.

  • Effective verbal and written communication.

  • Self-motivated and eager to continuously learn and improve.

Shift Information: This position is an onsite role and may require working during later hours to align with business hours. Candidates must be willing and able to work outside of standard hours as required to meet business needs.
