About the Role

The Building Automations Systems (BAS) Lead provides subject matter expertise and project engineering leadership managing the design and implementation of Building Automation Systems across global engineering projects and other facility automation initiatives.

This role manages engineering teams and consultants responsible for the design and development of BAS system architecture, hardware design, system configuration, programming, graphics and systems databases, and other activities. This role will drive flexible BAS project support capacity through engagement with project consultants while ensuring solutions align with engineering standards and operational needs.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Provide BAS subject matter expertise for engineering projects involving HVAC, utility and other building related systems, as well as the subject matter expertise of the BAS system itself.

  • Support Capital Projects in the development of the Scope of Work and Sequence of Operation documents, design reviews, BAS system development, and commissioning documentation development.

  •  Lead teams responsible for the design and development of BAS System architecture, hardware design, system configuration, programs, graphics, and system database for new installations, system expansions and modifications.

  • Support continuous improvement and innovation initiatives for BAS programming that focus on efficient operation and sustainability improvements of HVAC and utility systems.

  • Work remotely with site-based engineering teams to support BAS system implementation.

  • Provide support for various Energy Management applications.

  • Support systems via remote computer access and provide phone support to on-site operations.

  • Oversee consultants, BAS System Integrators, or engineering resources completing BAS design/development work, ensuring it aligns with existing global engineering standards and operational needs.

  • Manage workstreams providing BAS project execution support and adapt in response to changing project demands and requirements.

  • Coordinates with network project leads to define scope, develop strategies, and delivers BAS designs

  • Ensure redline drawing management

  • Support Engineering Change Management Submittal through Closeout

  • Understand start-up priorities and align design to support phased start-up

Basic Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent).

  • 12–17 years of work experience in the design and development of Building Automation Systems, specifically Siemens and Schneider Electric Platforms.

  • Experience in HVAC, and administration areas.

  • Engineering Management and/or relevant Project Management experience.

  • Experience in the global pharmaceutical industry preferred.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

  • Preferred experience and technical skills 5+ years as a Building Automation Engineer with an understanding of large HVAC systems and utility systems, development of BAS systems at new greenfield sites and existing sites, and management of BAS design teams.

  • Experienced in Building Automation System Platforms with proficiency in Siemens Desigo platform and Schneider Electric EcoStruxure BAS platform; hardware/architecture design, programming and graphics development, and database development.

  • Strong knowledge of HVAC control for large buildings including pharmaceutical manufacturing, laboratories, & administration buildings, and utility plant operations.

  • Understanding of fume hood control systems & interaction with BAS

  • Possess a foundational knowledge of networks and Industrial protocols such as Ethernet, BACnet and Modbus.

  • Experience managing engineering teams and/or external consultants.

  • Familiarity with Energy Management and Building Analytics.

  • Strong leadership and communication skills.

  • Ability to approach technical issues with a science-based mentality while providing clear direction within the area of expertise.

  • Demonstrated strategic thinking and decision-making capability.

  • Experience driving continuous improvement and innovation initiatives.

  • Strong collaboration and influencing skills across engineering and project teams.

  • Experience working across regions and time zones with cultural awareness and adaptability.
