Global Facilities Operations (GFO) is an organization within Engineering Operations and Services that is responsible for Facilities management, workplace services, laboratory equipment maintenance and laboratory services at Amgen sites globally. GFO’s mission is to provide a safe, reliable, and productive work environment to our Amgen colleagues in our offices, laboratories, and manufacturing plants. GFO works very closely with third-party Integrated Service Providers (ISPs) at delivering these services seamlessly to the business around the globe.
In this essential role you will be the Global Facilities Operations (GFO) lead for Amgen based at our Genome Valley R&D site at Hyderabad. Under minimal direction this role will initially support the implementation of a chemical management program to be executed by a third-party ISP. In addition, other lab support services such as media and buffer preparation, lab consumables inventory management, and glass washing may be included. In due course, core Facilities management responsibilities would be added to the role. The Facilities Manager will be the main interface with the landlord and has primary responsibilities for the overall delivery of safe and reliable facilities and laboratory support services to our site in Hyderabad. Responsibilities of the role include:
- Implement the overall facility management strategy for Amgen India Genome Valley: Working closely with AIN/ AGV site leadership and key functional groups such as R&D, EHSS and Security, execute the Facility management and lab support services strategies to ensure the reliable, safe delivery of fit for purpose Facilities management and laboratory support operations at our Genome valley site. Experience with operational excellence to drive productivity and improve service levels.
- Integrated Service Provider (ISP) performance management: At this site, facility management and laboratory support services will be primarily executed by third party providers. A key responsibility of the role will be to ensure that their work product is aligned with the overall GFO strategy and compliant with Amgen processes and procedures. Another aspect of the role will be to ensure providers meet agreed upon results via SLAs and performance metrics.
- Budget and financial management: A key aspect of the role will be to ensure sound financial management of the GFO operational budget. Responsibilities include Budgeting, Purchase Order management and Contract management.
- Emergency management and business continuity: Working closely with EHSS and Security, provide emergency management leadership services including building evacuations and ensure business continuity through crisis situations at the site.
Additional Role Responsibilities – Genome Valley Laboratory Operations
- Serve as the primary GFO representative supporting critical laboratory operations at the Amgen Genome Valley R&D site.
- Act as the primary point of contact for laboratory infrastructure, operational readiness, risk assessment, and mitigation planning.
- Ensure compliance with biosafety, chemical safety, occupational health, environmental, and facility regulations.
- Provide oversight of chemical inventory management, solvent handling, hazardous materials management, laboratory consumables, media and buffer preparation, waste segregation, glassware services, and material logistics.
- Support operations within BSL-2 and BSL-2+ laboratory environments and ensure compliance with biosafety requirements.
- Maintain laboratory zoning controls between laboratory, utility, administration, office, change room, and support spaces.
- Ensure laboratory hygiene standards, contamination control measures, waste handling processes, and environmental monitoring requirements are maintained.
- Oversee laboratory utility infrastructure including scrubber systems, diesel generators, LT electrical panels, HVAC systems, laboratory exhaust systems, and associated MEP assets.
- Lead business continuity planning and operational risk management for critical laboratory utilities and infrastructure systems.
- Ensure operational readiness of laboratory support areas, utility rooms, change rooms, storage areas, and common spaces.

Basic Qualifications
- 15+ years of experience in a lead role delivering Facilities management and site services within a large multi-national organization.

- Graduate degree and 12 years’ experience in facilities management or related areas such as Security, Environmental Health & Safety, capital construction projects or other similar highly operational roles.

- Master’s degree and 10 years’ experience in Facilities management or related areas such as Security, Environmental Health & Safety, capital construction projects or other similar operational roles.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience leading Facilities Management and Site Services operations within a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences, or research environment.
- Proven ability to manage third-party Integrated Service Providers (ISPs), including contract administration, performance management, service-level agreements (SLAs), governance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Strong knowledge of laboratory operations supporting chemical, biological, and open laboratory environments, including laboratory support services, material management, and operational readiness.
- Working knowledge of Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) laboratory requirements, laboratory containment principles, biosafety practices, laboratory zoning controls, and associated regulatory requirements.
- Experience managing chemical safety programs, including hazardous materials, solvent storage and handling, chemical inventory management, risk assessments, and regulatory compliance.
- Comprehensive understanding of Environmental, Health, Safety and Sustainability (EHSS) requirements applicable to laboratory facilities, including waste management, hygiene standards, environmental compliance, and emergency response planning.
- Experience overseeing critical laboratory and facility infrastructure, including HVAC systems, laboratory exhaust and scrubber systems, electrical distribution systems (LT panels), diesel generators, utility plants, and other MEP services supporting research operations.
- Strong knowledge of facility maintenance management systems, preventive maintenance programs, work order management processes, asset reliability, and business continuity planning.
- Experience managing operational budgets, forecasting, purchase orders, invoice approvals, vendor relationships, and contract negotiations.
- Working knowledge of Telangana labor regulations, statutory compliance requirements, and applicable local regulatory frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with R&D, EHSS, Security, Quality, and Workplace Services teams to support scientific operations, operational risk management, and site readiness.
- Experience maintaining laboratory support areas, utility spaces, change rooms, administration areas, office environments, and common facilities in compliance with applicable operational and biosafety standards.
- Familiarity with laboratory informatics, scientific infrastructure, computational research environments, and technology-enabled facility operations.
- Proven track record driving operational excellence through Lean, Six Sigma, reliability-centered maintenance, process optimization, and data-driven performance management.
- Strong leadership, stakeholder management, communication, presentation, and conflict-resolution skills, with the ability to influence across multiple functions and organizational levels.
- Self-motivated and adaptable leader with the ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic research environment while maintaining a strong customer-service orientation.
