Associcate Python Developer- Backend (Commercialization Technology)

As an Associate Software Engineer within our global Commercialization Technology team, this role will help build and enhance backend services, data integrations, and technology capabilities that support portfolio governance operations. This position will focus primarily on backend services, APIs, data integrations, and persistent data capabilities that support enterprise applications and analytics experiences. The successful candidate will work closely with product owners, experienced engineers, front-end developers, data teams, and business stakeholders to deliver solutions using evolving technologies such as Python, REST APIs, PostgreSQL, MCP, cloud services, and AI/agentic platforms.

Roles & Responsibilities:

• Develop and enhance backend services and APIs using technologies such as Python, REST APIs, FastAPI or comparable frameworks, and appropriate supporting libraries.
• Design and implement service-layer capabilities that support front-end applications, embedded analytics experiences, enterprise integrations, and other downstream consumers.
• Translate user stories, functional requirements, and solution designs into clear, reusable, and maintainable backend services, APIs, data models, and integration components.
• Develop and maintain RESTful API integrations with enterprise applications, approved internal and external services, and governed data platforms.
• Develop and support data integrations and persistence using PostgreSQL and other relational databases, including data models, SQL queries, transformations, validation, and application data flows.
• Develop and contribute to unit, integration, API, contract, and data-validation testing as part of the software development lifecycle.
• Create prototypes and proofs of concept to validate API, integration, data, and AI/agentic technical approaches and help translate approved concepts into production-ready services.
• Use source control, code reviews, CI/CD practices, and established development and deployment standards appropriate to backend services and data integrations.
• Write clean, reusable, well-documented, secure, and maintainable backend code, APIs, data-access components, and configuration.
• Monitor and troubleshoot backend services, APIs, database integrations, and data-pipeline issues; support defect resolution and participate in production support activities.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, including API documentation, data models, integration specifications, configuration notes, and operational support procedures.
• Work closely with product owners, business stakeholders, front-end engineers, data engineers, QA engineers, and other technology teams.
• Follow Agile practices, participate in sprint planning and estimation, and provide timely status updates.
• Continuously build knowledge of modern backend development, APIs, data, cloud, AI, and agentic technologies as the Commercialization Technology landscape evolves.
• Maintain accurate documentation of services, configurations, data flows, integrations, and changes.
• Contribute reusable backend components, integration patterns, documentation, and continuous improvements that strengthen the broader Commercialization Technology ecosystem.

What we expect of you

Basic Qualifications and Experience:

·        Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field

·        Approximately 2 to 4 years of relevant software development, application development, data, or technology experience

·        Demonstrated experience developing or supporting software, data, or technology solutions in a professional environment

·        Ability to contribute to defined technical assignments while collaborating effectively with a cross-functional team

·        Ability to quickly learn unfamiliar technologies, platforms, data sources, and business processes

·        Eagerness to learn and grow in a software development and enterprise technology environment

Functional Skills:

Must-Have Skills

• Hands-on experience developing backend services, APIs, or integrations using Python or comparable server-side technologies
• Experience translating business requirements or user stories into functional backend services, APIs, data models, or integration solutions
• Experience developing REST APIs and integrating applications with databases, enterprise data sources, or other technology platforms; familiarity with common API patterns, authentication, error handling, and payload validation
• Working knowledge of relational data concepts, data persistence, PostgreSQL or comparable SQL technologies, transformations, data quality, and the ability to work effectively with unfamiliar data sources

·        Experience working with enterprise application integrations or service platforms such as Salesforce, Microsoft Power Platform, or comparable enterprise technologies

·        Working knowledge of application security concepts, including authentication, authorization, and access controls

• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills; ability to learn quickly and communicate effectively with technical and nontechnical stakeholders

·        Experience working within Agile or Scrum delivery methodologies

• Ability to create clear technical and functional documentation, including requirements, configuration instructions, data flows, and support documentation
• Ability to collaborate effectively across global, virtual, and cross-functional teams

Good-to-Have Skills:

• Experience developing and supporting enterprise-grade applications within a global, highly regulated healthcare, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology environment
• Experience with Databricks, Salesforce, AWS, Microsoft Power Platform, or other enterprise application platforms as integration targets or service consumers
• Experience supporting enterprise analytics and embedded visualization integrations, including Tableau or comparable platforms
• Experience working with enterprise data platforms such as Databricks, relational databases, governed APIs, or embedded analytics and visualization platforms
• Experience with cloud technologies such as AWS and familiarity with cloud-hosted application, API, or data services
• Experience with source control, CI/CD pipelines, and development platforms such as GitLab
• Familiarity with automated testing, application monitoring, logging, and production support practices
• Experience with authentication and authorization technologies such as OAuth 2.0, OIDC, or SAML
• Experience supporting AI-enabled applications, agentic workflows, Model Context Protocol (MCP) integrations, or other enterprise AI/ML capabilities
• Ability to evaluate technology options and communicate technical concepts and tradeoffs in clear business terms
• Working understanding of business operations within Research and Development, Commercialization, Operations, Process Development, Commercial, or Marketing

Professional Certifications:

• Relevant certification preferred in Salesforce, Microsoft Power Platform, cloud technologies, software development, data, DevOps, cybersecurity, Agile, or enterprise platforms
• Agile certification is a plus, such as SAFe for Teams or equivalent
• Salesforce or Microsoft Power Platform certification is a plus
