Associate Software Engineer-Business Intelligence
What you will do

In this vital role you will assist in designing, developing, and maintaining business intelligence dashboards and analytics solutions that empower data-driven decision-making across Amgen. This role focuses on the creation, optimization, and support of BI tools such as Tableau and Power BI, ensuring accuracy, usability, and performance of key analytics assets.
You’ll collaborate closely with business collaborators, data engineers, and product managers to transform complex data into meaningful insights through visualizations and interactive dashboards. This position is ideal for someone eager to grow their technical skills in data analytics, visualization design, and BI platform management within a global enterprise environment.
You will be part of a team specifically focusing on R&D Commercialization capabilities. Amgen is using fully integrated and best-in-class technologies, having various enterprise platforms such as AWS, Salesforce, Planisware; enterprise collaboration platforms such as O365, Smartsheet, SharePoint Online and MS Teams, as well as vertical-specific platforms in R&D, Operations, Process Development and Commercial/Marketing areas.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Assist in the design, development, and implementation of BI solutions using Tableau, Power BI, and other visualization platforms.
- Own dashboard development cycles—from requirements gathering and data modeling to visualization and deployment.
- Partner with business teams to translate analytical needs into technical requirements and deliver dashboards that provide clear, actionable insights.
- Create and maintain documentation for data sources, metrics, and dashboard logic to ensure transparency and reusability.
- Support data integration and validation efforts by working with data engineers to ensure data accuracy and completeness.
- Help develop proofs of concept (POCs) for new dashboard designs and visual storytelling approaches.
- Monitor and optimize dashboard performance and ensure user satisfaction through feedback-driven enhancements.
- Collaborate on automated refresh schedules, access controls, and governance standards for BI platforms.
- Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies, contribute to sprint deliverables, and assist with backlog refinement related to BI priorities.
- Take ownership of Development/configuration of user stories in collaboration with experienced engineers
- Create and maintain documentation on design and configuration
- Work with the team to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, escalating when needed
- Contribute to the maintenance and support by monitoring performance and reporting issues
- Learn to use CI/CD pipelines as part of DevOps practices and assist in the release process

What we expect of you

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and 2 to 6 years of Computer Science, IT or related field experience
Must-Have Skills
- Familiarity with at least one programming language (Apex, Java, SQL, Python or similar)
- Experience with at least one business intelligence platform (Tableau, PowerBI)
- Broad interest in various Amgen preferred platforms/tools
- Eagerness to learn and grow in a software development environment
- Ability to work well within a team and communicate effectively
- Basic understanding of Agile or Scrum methodologies
- Experience working on academic or personal software projects
- Curiosity about cloud-based platforms and system integration
- Basic knowledge of version control systems like Git & Release management tools
- Fluent in enterprise collaboration platforms such as O365, SharePoint Online and MS Teams
- Incorporate AI tools in daily activities as well as proactively seeking opportunities to utilize and extend AI toolsets into development work
Good-to-Have Skills:
- Basic understanding of in one or more of the enterprise platforms such as Salesforce, Planisware, or Anaplan
- Basic understanding in one or more vertical-specific platforms in R&D, Operations, Process Development and Commercial/Marketing areas
- Certifications related to Salesforce, Copado, SAFe are advantageous
Soft Skills:
- Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Comfortable to work effectively with global, virtual teams
- High degree of initiative and self-motivation
