The Engineering Technical Authority AIN Lead provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the Building Automation Systems (BAS) capability within Global Engineering.
This role leads a centralized automation development capability responsible for advancing BAS engineering standards, enabling standardized automation architectures, and supporting BAS implementations across engineering projects and facility operations. The position translates enterprise engineering strategies into operational objectives and leads teams of subject matter experts responsible for BAS standards development, system ownership, and project engineering support.
The Associate Director partners closely with engineering, facilities, digital technology, and 3rd party provider teams to ensure BAS solutions are scalable, standardized, and aligned with global engineering strategies while supporting reliable and efficient facility operations across the network.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and set the direction for the Engineering Technical Authority BAS team at AIN aligning BAS capability priorities with global engineering strategies and ETA objectives.
- Drive revenue results, budget, and resource allocation within respective department
- Communicate team strategies, plans, and priorities across stakeholders and leadership teams.
- Translate business plans and engineering strategies into operational objectives for BAS capabilities.
- Provide leadership and direction to Senior Managers responsible for BAS standards development, platform ownership, and BAS project engineering support.
- Oversee multiple teams of subject matter experts supporting BAS initiatives and workstreams.
- Establish and advance standardized BAS automation architectures to improve engineering consistency and maintainability.
- Support development of reusable automation frameworks and design standards that improve engineering efficiency and project delivery.
- Oversee engineering initiatives to ensure alignment with project timelines and objectives.
- Assess effectiveness of BAS and systems engineering operations and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Ensure successful coordination of resources and priorities across multiple BAS initiatives and engineering workstreams.
- Support enterprise engineering initiatives requiring BAS technical expertise.
- Proactively engages with the Sustainability team
- Leads ETA team to established engagement and teamwork as part of the Amgen culture
- Manages and leads cross functional coordination with other Amgen Engineering teams at AIN
- Is part of the AIN leadership team
- Ensures overall delivery of BAS and ESS/EPD meets the needs of the projects
- Career development, training, and performance evaluations
- Primary POC for network / projects
- Provide leadership support to standardized approach (Design, C&Q)
- Leads technical Issues Management / Communication with stakeholders
PREFERRED/GOOD TO HAVE QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- 16 to 20 years of experience supporting Building Automation Systems (BAS), industrial automation, or facility control systems.
- Strong experience with BAS platforms such as Siemens, Schneider Electric, Honeywell, or Johnson Controls.
- Deep knowledge of HVAC systems, utility plant operations, and facility automation infrastructure.
- Experience leading engineering teams, technical SMEs, or global engineering capability programs.
- Experience developing engineering standards, automation architectures, or design frameworks.
- Demonstrated strategic thinking and decision-making capability with the ability to align technical initiatives with broader engineering objectives.
- Proven ability to drive continuous improvement and innovation initiatives that enhance automation performance and engineering efficiency.
- Strong collaboration and influencing skills across engineering, operations, facilities, and technology teams.
- Experience managing cross-functional engineering initiatives or multiple technical workstreams.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop engineering leaders or subject matter experts.
- Experience supporting standardization and automation deployment across multiple sites.
- Experience working in regulated industries such as pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or life sciences manufacturing.
- Experience managing engineering resources, program priorities, and operational planning.
