Specialist IS Business Systems Analyst

What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world! In this vital role, you will help drive Amgen’s digital and AI-enabled transformation by connecting business needs with practical technology solutions. You will apply business insight, technical judgment, and execution discipline to guide initiatives that improve how teams work, make decisions, and deliver value. This role will also evaluate opportunities thoughtfully, align the right stakeholders, and ensure solutions are effective, compliant, and built for meaningful impact.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Lead medium-to-large digital, automation, data, analytics, and AI-enabled initiatives across multiple departments or functional areas from business need through implementation and adoption.
  • Partner with Manufacturing, Business, Technology/IS, Engineering, Automation, Quality, Data, and vendor stakeholders to identify business needs, process improvements, and scalable technology solutions.
  • Lead requirements elicitation and process analysis, translating business needs into system requirements, user stories, process flows, acceptance criteria, and measurable success criteria.
  • Define and manage project scope, delivery plans, timelines, resources, budgets, risks, dependencies, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Manage cross-functional teams through solution design, development, testing, implementation, release readiness, adoption, and post-implementation assessment.
  • Support the computerized system/application lifecycle, including implementation, validation/qualification, change control, sustainment, enhancements, integrations, upgrades, periodic reviews, and retirement.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify, standardize, and automate business processes, eliminate manual activities, improve data quality, and replace inefficient or legacy workflows.
  • Partner with the business to identify, standardize, and operationalize data sources, metrics, KPIs, dashboards, and analytics solutions supporting operational excellence and data-driven decision-making.
  • Drive delivery and adoption of digital platforms, workflow automation, dashboards, analytics, and AI-enabled capabilities that improve productivity, quality, decision-making, and user experience.
  • Identify appropriate AI/ML and Generative AI use cases, support responsible AI adoption, and contribute to practical guidance and guardrails for AI platforms, tools, and applications.
  • Ensure technology solutions comply with applicable Technology, cybersecurity, GxP, data integrity, quality, legal, policy, and operational requirements.
  • Communicate project status, risks, decisions, technical approaches, dependencies, and business value to stakeholders, vendors, and leadership.
  • Drive continuous improvement and value realization by monitoring outcomes, gathering user feedback, and identifying opportunities to enhance delivered solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring and contribute to best practices for digital, data, AI, automation, and technology-enabled project delivery.

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree

OR

Master’s degree and 2 years in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Business, Life Sciences, or related field

OR

Bachelor’s degree and 4 years in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Business, Life Sciences, or related field

OR

Associate’s degree and 8 years in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Business, Life Sciences, or related field

OR

High school diploma / GED and 10 years in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Business, Life Sciences, or related field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in business systems analysis, including requirements elicitation, process discovery, business process mapping, user stories, acceptance criteria, and translation of business needs into technology solutions.
  • Experience leading or supporting medium-to-large technology, digital, automation, data, analytics, or AI-enabled initiatives involving cross-functional teams.
  • Experience supporting computerized systems in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, manufacturing, or other regulated environment.
  • Working knowledge of GxP, computerized system lifecycle, validation/qualification, change control, data integrity, access management, audit trails, electronic records, cybersecurity, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with project management and Agile delivery practices, including scope, schedule, risk and dependency management, backlog management, sprint planning, testing, UAT, defect management, and release readiness.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of data and analytics, including data sources, data quality, KPIs, metrics, analytics, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Experience with data visualization and analytics platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, Spotfire, Databricks, or comparable technologies.
  • Working knowledge of AI/ML, Generative AI, intelligent automation, and emerging technologies, including business use-case identification, responsible AI principles, and evaluation of new technology capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and implement process improvement, standardization, digitalization, and automation opportunities.
  • Strong technical problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to coordinate issue resolution across business teams, technical teams, system owners, and vendors.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical organizations and communicate with leadership.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, risks, dependencies, milestones, and deliverables in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to develop business, technology, data, and domain expertise and apply emerging capabilities to practical business needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and provide guidance to team members and contribute to technical and delivery best practices.

Soft Skills:

  • Able to work effectively across multiple geographies (primarily India, Portugal, and the United States) under minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in written and verbal communication in English language.
  • Intellectual curiosity and the ability to question partners across functions.
  • Ability to prioritize successfully based on business value.
  • High degree of initiative and self-motivation.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities successfully across virtual teams.
  • Team-oriented, with a focus on achieving team goals.
  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
