Undergraduate Co-op – Drug Substance Technologies Synthetics - Massachusetts (July – December 2026)  

What You Will Do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. During this program, you will apply engineering principles to real-world challenges in pharmaceutical development. You will work alongside experienced engineers and scientists to improve processes that enable the reliable production of life-saving medicines. You will gain hands-on experience in chemical synthesis processes while contributing to impactful engineering projects.

  • Support process development and optimization for pharmaceutical synthetic processes including synthesis, purification, and isolation.
  • Implement process Automation for Chemical processes to control process quality
  • Analyze process data to identify trends, improve performance, and support data-driven decision making.
  • Assist with process improvement initiatives using engineering tools such as mass and energy balances, statistical analysis, and process modeling.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including scientists, manufacturing engineers and analytical scientists.
  • Participate in technical investigations and troubleshooting of process deviations or equipment issues.
  • Develop technical documentation and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to engineering and leadership teams.

Basic Qualifications:

Amgen requires that all individuals applying for an co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:

  • 18 years or older
  • Currently enrolled in a full-time Bachelor’s Degree program from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent
  • Completion of one year of study from an accredited college or university prior to the internship commencing
  • Enrolled in a full-time Bachelor’s degree program following the potential internship or co-op assignment with an accredited college or university
  • Must not be employed at the time the internship starts
  • Student must be located in the United States for the duration of the co-op

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Chemistry or a related discipline
  • Coursework or academic experience in transport phenomena, reaction engineering, thermodynamics, instrumentation or bioprocess engineering
  • Experience with data analysis tools (Python, MATLAB, JMP, Excel, or similar)
  • Familiarity with process modeling, statistical analysis, or design of experiments
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Interest in pharmaceutical processes, process development, or synthetic chemistry

The base pay range for this opportunity in the U.S. is $24.70 - $28.30 per hour.
