Undergrad Intern - Process Development, Pilot Plant
What You Will Do
In this role, you will establish the platforms of the future and apply established platform approaches while using problem-solving skills to rapidly solve day-to-day experimental challenges. As such, this is a hands-on role where troubleshooting and problem solving are part of the day to day. Additionally, you will apply out-of-the-box thinking to contribute to technology development and demonstrate the desire to expand and develop expertise in both cell culture and purification.
The Internship Will Be Focused On:
- Embarking on a journey of discovery as you meet milestone training checkpoints and follow standardized operating procedures (SOPs)
- Immersing yourself in the biotechnology industry and learning how our technologies are advanced while learning about cell culture Upstream, Downstream/Purification and aseptic processes, equipment, and technology
- Following Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs), Good Documentation Practices (GDP), and applicable regulations from the Code of Federal Regulations (CFRs)
- Reporting any discrepancies to ensure quality standards and safety
- Ensuring quality & compliance through a Right First-Time mentality
- Completing experiments in the lab to support progression of technologies
- Performing in-process sampling and operating analytical equipment
- Creating experiments and documenting work in electronic lab notebooks by GDP principles while following appropriate SOPs
- Generating report(s) summarizing outcome of experiments
- Collaborating as part of a cross-functional team within the broader Drug Substance Technology/Drug Substance Technology Engineering teams to complete experiments

Basic Qualifications:
Amgen requires that all individuals applying for an undergrad internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:
- 18 years or older
- Currently enrolled in a full-time Associate’s Degree program from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent
- Completion of one year of study from an accredited college or university prior to the internship commencing
- Enrolled in a full-time Associate’s degree program following the potential internship or co-op assignment with an accredited college or university
- Must not be employed at the time the internship starts
- Student must be located in the United States for the duration of the internship
Preferred Qualifications
- Students who are currently enrolled in the Associates Biotechnology Program from Benjamin Franklin Cummings Institute of Technology
- Ability to regularly lift up to 35 lbs, push and pull objects that require up to 50 lbs of force, and work on your feet for long durations
- Ability to perform physical movements to perform daily tasks on the production floor such as bending, reaching above the head, climbing, kneeling, squatting, stooping, walking up or down stairs, and standing on portable stairs or ladders up to 6 feet off the ground
- Ability to work off-hours and weekends based on experiment needs
- Ability to learn new experimental methods
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to conduct research
- Ability to manage multiple projects consecutively
- Demonstrated ability to bring structure to complex problems, pragmatic scoping and problem-solving approach, ability to objectively evaluate options/trade-offs and develop executive management-level recommendations
- Be available to work non-standard hours to accommodate experiment requirements

The base pay range for this opportunity in the U.S. is $24.70 - $28.30 per hour.
