Role: Scientist – Experimental Immunology (14 Month Contract)

Reports to: Senior Principal Scientist, Experimental Immunology

Location: Burnaby, BC

What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will join the Experimental Immunology Team at our Amgen British Columbia site. The individual would be responsible for designing, optimizing and executing novel immunological screens and assays to support the development of new discovery research platforms.

  • Develop, optimize and execute novel immunological assays
  • Perform the isolation and culture of primary immune cells
  • Contribute to the development of new protocols and platforms that leverage flow cytometry or other functional immune cell readouts
  • Contribute to the development and execution of existing discovery platforms by performing tissue processing, primary cell culture, and standard immunological assays.

Well-suited applicant will have broad laboratory training, deep scientific curiosity and a positive approach to working in a team-based research environment. This individual will also have a track record of creative problem-solving and enthusiasm for tackling difficult research challenges.

Basic Qualifications:

BS/MS degree

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Cell/Molecular Biology, Immunology, Biochemistry or a related discipline and 2 years+ of scientific laboratory experience.
  • Strong foundational understanding of immunology and cellular biology
  • Experience with performing immunology assays including ELISA, ELISpots and flow cytometry.
  • Experience in tissue processing protocols and sample tracking/management
  • Expertise with aseptic cell culture techniques including:
  • Isolation and culture of primary immune cells
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Desire to be a team player in a dynamic, cross-functional environment.
  • Demonstrated scientific analysis and problem-solving skills.

The salary range for this position in Canada is $84,000 - $115,000 CAD
