Role: Scientist, Biomolecular Interactions (12 Month Contract)

Location: Burnaby, BC
What you will do
Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role, you will join Amgen BC’s affinity team in In Vitro Pharmacology group to discover novel therapeutic antibodies.
Our small team specializes in designing and conducting both high throughput and smaller, custom biophysical screening assays to rank and characterize both discovery and later stage large molecule therapeutic programs. The individual will join a team of dedicated scientists to discover and characterize molecules that have the potential to help patients in need. A well-suited applicant will have great laboratory skills, a strong analytical mindset, deep scientific curiosity, and a can-do attitude. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development, optimization, and implementation of various biophysical based screening assays for novel therapeutic candidates with guidance from the lead Scientist.
Essential Functions:
- Conduct routine and novel affinity/kinetic characterization screens on all relevant platforms (Carterra, Octet, Biacore, KinExA), including custom assays and assay development
- Instrument housekeeping, reagent ordering, troubleshooting
- Data summarizing and reporting (ELN, Screener, Benchling, slide decks), timely documentation

Basic Qualifications:
Doctorate degree
OR
Master’s degree & 3 years of related experience
OR
Bachelor’s degree & 5 years of directly related experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Deep understanding of molecular binding interaction theory (SPR, BLI), hands on experience and instrumentation nuances – specifically Biacore, ideally 1K/8K series, KinExA experience strongly preferred
- A good understanding of protein chemistry and/or a general biochemistry background; antibody experience desired
- Experience with mammalian cell culture (CHO, HEK) and transfection; on cell affinity assays or FACS is preferred
- Experience with data analysis using PRISM, Codex and custom R/Python is an asset
- A keen eye and a strong analytical mindset, with an interest and aptitude for DoE tasks (e.g. assay dev/troubleshooting) and data analysis and interpretation
- Ability to multitask and stay organized in the face of shifting priorities without losing focus
