Senior Observational Research Manager

The Amgen Centre for Observational Research (CfOR) team is looking for an experienced Senior Observational Research (OR) Manager to support the forecasting and real-world data (RWD) platform activities in the European region. Observational Research is an important component of drug development and commercialization. Some areas where OR contributes include estimating the size of treatable populations, characterizing the clinical burden of disease, and through use of pharmacoepidemiology to evaluate drug safety, effectiveness and support design of clinical trials. Increasingly, data obtained from observational studies are required by regulatory and reimbursement authorities.

Our Center for Observational Research Team:

The Amgen CfOR was created to address this imperative. Its embedded Data & Analytics Center (DAC) provides the RWD infrastructure and analytic capability. The OR Sr. Manager will be a major contributor within the DAC and will report directly to the RWD lead in Europe.

Senior Observational Research Manager role overview:

The role will include supporting RWD infrastructure activities in the European region as well as providing real-world evidence using European large HC data sources for in-line product forecasts. Moreover, it will be making significant contributions to the CfOR’s Data & Analytics Center processes and RWD platform, strategy for data acquisitions as well as collaborations and partnerships.


  • Contributes to Amgen’s RWD strategy in the European region
  • Leads key projects related to large HC data sources such as the production of standard epidemiology output
  • Using DAC infrastructure and analytics, deliver key standard outputs as needed by internal stakeholders
  • Contribute/lead the development of CfOR DAC analytics
  • Makes significant scientific contributions in the field of RWD
  • Leads initiatives to improve Amgen RWD infrastructure
  • Contributes to pharmacovigilance activities including safety signal detection, surveillance, and risk management plans
  • Promotes understanding and use of state-of-the-art observational research methods
  • Communicates scientific strategy and results to a variety of internal/external audiences.

Qualifications and minimum required experience:

  • Master’s degree in Epidemiology or other subject with high observational research content or Medical degree with observational research experience
  • Observational research experience
  • Record of publications in observational research or clinical journals.

Preferred Requirements

  • Doctorate in Epidemiology or other subject with high observational research content
  • Experience in the design, execution, and analysis of observation research studies within Pharmaceutical or Public Health setting
  • Experience in research to support drug development
  • Experience in working with large HC databases
  • Experience in observational research project planning and management
  • Experience in the design, execution, and analysis of observation research studies within Pharmaceutical or Public Health setting
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Proficient communicating observational research information (written and oral)
  • Programming in SAS or other software (e.g. STATA)
  • Experience in literature review.
