Specialist Supply Chain (Procurement Planner / Buyer)
What you will do

Amgen Rhode Island is seeking a highly analytical and strategic Raw Material Planner / Buyer to play a critical role in optimizing procurement operations and driving long-term supply chain success. This role requires a data-driven approach, the ability to recognize industry trends, and a focus on continuous improvement to enhance procurement efficiency.
In this vital role you will balance both tactical execution and strategic planning, using analytics to make informed decisions, optimize supplier relationships, and proactively mitigate risks. This role will be pivotal in shaping procurement strategies that align with business objectives, market trends, and evolving industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Procurement & Supplier Management
Develop and implement forward-thinking procurement strategies to enhance supply chain efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and supplier reliability while ensuring no business disruption due to material inventory management.
Leverage industry insights and market intelligence to anticipate supply chain disruptions, identify emerging opportunities, and implement procurement strategies.
Establish and manage long-term supplier partnerships, fostering collaboration for continuous improvement and innovation.
Align procurement initiatives with global sourcing strategies, optimizing category management and standardizing best practices across the organization.
New Product Introductions
Develop inventory strategies to support new product introductions, balancing implementation timelines with a focus on reducing scrap.
Advance the New Product Introduction process within the site and network to ensure harmonized raw material procurement strategies.
Manage raw material ordering and support Bill of Materials (BOM) development per project timeline, calling out any late or at-risk deliverables to leadership for support.
Abnormal Scrap and Advanced Inventory Management
Support reduction of abnormal scrap through strategic inventory policy.
Manage raw material expiry, alternate material planning, complex material categories (resin, gas, etc.) and develop material re-supply strategy to ensure that complex raw material planning aligns with manufacturing need.
Advanced Analytics
Develop and maintain KPI's and performance dashboards to measure procurement efficiency, supplier reliability, and inventory optimization.
Implement AI-driven or automated procurement solutions to enhance decision-making and operational effectiveness per Amgen corporate End-to-End Supply Chain initiatives.
Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement
Drive process improvements through data-driven insights, enhancing procurement efficiency, reducing lead times, and optimizing inventory levels.
Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising quality, compliance, or operational efficiency.
Enhance supplier performance management, ensuring continuous improvement in quality, cost, and service levels.
Champion a culture of continuous improvement, providing leadership in identifying and implementing innovative procurement strategies.
Risk Management & Compliance
Assess procurement risks and proactively manage procurement active issues, ensuring resilience against supply chain disruptions. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement contingency plans and risk mitigation strategies.
Ensure adherence to cGMP standards, industry regulations, and internal procurement policies.
Cross-Functional Leadership & Strategic Influence
Engage with senior leadership to develop procurement roadmaps that align with corporate objectives.
Collaborate with Manufacturing, Engineering, Process Development, and Finance to ensure supply chain alignment with business needs.

Basic Qualifications:
High School Diploma/GED and 10 years of Supply Chain or Operations experience OR
Associate’s Degree and 8 years of Supply Chain or Operations experience OR
Bachelor’s Degree and 4 years of Supply Chain or Operations experience OR
Master’s Degree and 2 years of Supply Chain or Operations experience OR
Doctorate Degree
Preferred Qualifications:
Expertise in using analytics and data to inform supply chain strategy and optimize operations
Well-versed in supply chain concepts, planning principles and inventory management theory and/or equivalent experience in the supply chain, engineering, manufacturing, or quality functions.
Association for Supply Chain Management (ASCM/APICS) certification or Six Sigma Black Belt.
High proficiency with computer systems (SAP, Rapid Response, Excel, Smartsheet or comparable).
Solid understanding of cGMP guidelines.
Strong analytical, critical thinking, data science, and optimization skills.
Ability to distill complex data sets and problems into concise and actionable plans.
Ability to influence and negotiate to resolve issues, gain consensus, and develop relationships tactfully and optimally.
Self-motivation and ability to grow and learn new insights.
Financial and business insight to evaluate and drive cost optimization opportunities
Ability to influence broadly and build consensus across multiple levels of the organization
Experience with leading and motivating an organization
Project management skills

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
