Manager, Corporate Affairs, Media Relations

Let’s do this! Let's change the world! In this role you will be an integral part of Amgen’s global media relations team. The Manager, Corporate Affairs, Media Relations will play a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless operations of our dynamic media relations team. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a hard-working team, harnessing your operational expertise to support Amgen’s biggest news. To achieve their goals, the Manager will collaborate with numerous internal cross-functional teams, agency partners and vendors.
This position reports directly to the Executive Director, Corporate Affairs, Enterprise Media Relations, operating as a self-starter while working on a collaborative and impactful four-member team. This position can sit remotely in the U.S. and does not need to be based in Thousand Oaks, CA.
In this role, you will need to:
Support the global media relations team in day-to-day operations, ensuring smooth functioning and coordination of activities
Supervise Corporate Affairs material review process and system to ensure compliance with company standards and regulations, including maintaining training program
Distribution of all Amgen global press releases
Prepare media monitoring comprehensive reports around key company news
Manage contracts and relationships with enterprise media vendors; assess and recommend new vendors and opportunities for consideration
Manage enterprise sponsorships
Work closely with a wide variety of teams within Corporate Affairs and cross-functionally
Lead enterprise media relations metrics reporting
Development of executive briefing materials as needed
Manage media team budget, purchase orders and invoices
Identify and assess emerging industry trends, earned media outlets and communication technologies to ensure Amgen remains at the forefront of media relations best practices
Direct public relations agency partners to assure maximum impact and assistance in achieving communications goals and objectives
Maintain and regularly update media team's journalist database
Have established relationships with reporters and understanding the basics of media pitching and engagement

Basic Qualifications:
Doctorate Degree
Or
Master’s degree and 2 years of public relations, communications, or journalism experience
Or
Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of public relations, communications or journalism experience
Or
Associates degree and 8 years of public relations, communication, or journalism experience
Or
High school diploma/GED and 10 years of public relations, communications or journalism experience
Preferred Qualifications:
5+ experience within public relations and/or communications
Close attention to detail, collaborative spirit and commitment to operational excellence
Excellent interpersonal skills; enthusiastic teammate and self-starter; serious commitment to hard work and excellence
Biotechnology and/or pharmaceutical communications experience
Excellent consulting, writing, editing, presentation and communication skills
Working knowledge of healthcare journalists and outlets
Familiarity with media monitoring and analytics tools and platforms
Ability to interface professionally with corporate leaders and managers
Experience working at or managing public relations agency partners and vendor relationships
Ability to think quickly, analytically and creatively to accommodate a dynamic environment

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
