Scientist - Functional Genomics

What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will join an enthusiastic, fast-paced team utilizing cutting edge functional genomics and cellular profiling technologies to advance discovery and drug development across Amgen’s therapeutic areas.

  • Design, develop, and deliver high-dimensional functional genomics screens using advanced perturbation tools and single-cell sequencing assays
  • Identify and implement new and impactful profiling and screening technologies
  • Leverage genomics, transcriptomics, epigenomics, and screening data to help develop multi-omic atlases for the characterization of disease biology
  • Apply computational, statistical, and machine learning methods to analyze internally generated and publicly available omics datasets
  • Develop strategies and methods to implement disease-relevant model systems for discovery and therapeutic advancement
  • Maintain organized project records, laboratory notebooks, and code/data repositories
  • Collaborate closely with disease area, biomarker, computational biology, and therapeutic development teams to make actionable decisions as a technical and intellectual subject matter expert
  • Present research findings to cross-functional groups at internal and external meetings and publish scientific findings in peer-reviewed forums

What we expect of you

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree

OR

Master’s degree and 2 years of relevant experience

OR

Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree in genetics, genomics, cell and molecular biology, systems biology, or related disciplines
  • Demonstrated track record of independent critical thinking, complex problem solving, and innovative research, evidenced by significant contributions to pipeline programs and publications in top tier journals
  • Hands-on expertise conducting and delivering complex, pooled CRISPR perturbation experiments with a single-cell readout using Perturb-seq, CROP-seq, or similar approaches
  • Proficiency in programming (e.g. in R/Python), Unix/Linux environments, and cloud computing environments for the analysis of large omics datasets and generation of custom computational pipelines
  • Proficiency with experimental design, data generation, and analysis principles across a broad range of single-cell/bulk/spatial transcriptomic, epigenomic, and genomic assays
  • Experience with genomic perturbation at scale using cell lines and primary cells, including approaches such as transient/stable CRISPR-KO/i/a, base editing, and epigenomic modification
  • Strong written, verbal, and oral communication skills and ability to thrive as a team player in cross-functional settings

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
