What you will do

The Department of Inflammation at AMGEN Inc. is currently seeking a dedicated senior scientist to contribute to our research efforts in developing new treatments for inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. This role requires a commitment to developing a deep understanding of the pathogenic mechanisms that underlie inflammation. In this vital role, you will be driving discovery efforts to identify how Amgen’s innovative modalities can improve the lives of patients who suffer from inflammatory and autoimmune diseases and related co-morbidities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identification of new therapeutic targets and preclinical validation. The candidate is expected to be continuously aware of scientific developments in immunology, inflammatory diseases and the constantly evolving landscape of unmet needs in patients with inflammatory disease.

  • Work collaboratively with a team of expert scientists.

  • Present research discoveries to AMGEN colleagues and scientific meetings (oral or poster presentations and publish scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals).

  • Lead ethical, high-quality research experiments in accordance with regulatory agencies and compliance guidelines.

  • Design or assist in the development of medium to low-throughput assays used to support both small and large molecule drug development programs.

  • Independently design, perform, and analyze in vitro, ex vivo, in silico and in vivo laboratory experiments, including troubleshooting, optimization of assays, data collection, interpretation, biostatistical analysis, and presentation.

  • Participation in cross-functional drug development teams as a key intellectual and technical contributor.

  • Function optimally in a team-based or collaborative environment as part of a highly integrated team, possess excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills, and demonstrate the ability to produce reliable and reproducible results.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree and 2+ years of relevant experience

OR

  • Master’s degree and 5+ years of relevant experience

OR

  • Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Research Experience: PhD in biology with over 5 years of experience in inflammation-focused research within both academic and industry settings, experience in antibody-drug-conjugates (ADC) is highly desired.

  • Scientific Contributions: Demonstrated track record of independent scientific contributions in immunology, with a particular focus on the crosstalk between immune and stromal cells, as evidenced by publications in high-impact journals.

  • Technical Expertise: skilled in advanced research methodologies, including single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-Seq), multi-color flow cytometry, CRISPR/Cas9 screening, omics data analysis, complex in vitro primary cell models, cell signaling/biochemistry, in vivo mouse models for autoimmune disease, and human disease genetics.

  • Collaborative Skills: proven ability to work effectively in team environments with strong documentation, laboratory management, and communication skills

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
