Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will establish and lead the Computational Translational Target Discovery (CTTD) Group, a critical initiative at the forefront of our mission to transform patient outcomes.
This high-impact role will integrate advanced genomic resources, cutting-edge translational insights from Amgen's clinical trials, and state-of-the-art computational biology to accelerate the discovery of high-value therapeutic targets. The successful candidate will build and lead a multidisciplinary team, driving innovation and cross-functional collaboration across R&D to shape Amgen’s pipeline and drive strategic priorities forward. Reporting into Precision Medicine, you will lead the CTTD team to deliver measurable impact on Amgen’s pipeline and innovation capabilities.
Responsibilities
Target Discovery Leadership:
Lead computational target discovery efforts to identify and validate high-value drug targets and actionable disease mechanisms.
Align target nomination processes with pipeline priorities, ensuring integration across Precision Medicine, Amgen Research Reykjavik, Discovery Therapeutic Areas, and cross-functional R&D teams.
Clinical Data Integration and Utilization:
Leverage clinical datasets to deepen mechanistic understanding of existing targets and uncover novel therapeutic opportunities.
Lead the development of therapeutic hypotheses to effectively guide functional genomic validation, ensuring robust and actionable insights.
Team Building and Collaboration:
Build and manage a high-performing team of computational biologists, coordinating efforts across a federated model.
Foster collaboration across R&D teams to streamline processes and enhance discovery efficiency.
Strategic Impact:
Develop and execute a strategic roadmap for target discovery, accelerating the translation of early research into clinical applications.
Communicate the vision, goals, and outcomes of target discovery initiatives to internal and external stakeholders.
Drive execution of strategy cross-functionally to deliver measurable impact

We are all different, yet we all use our unique contributions to serve patients. The candidate we seek is an experienced leader with the following qualifications.
Basic Qualifications:
Doctorate degree & 6 years of biology research and computational biology experience OR
Master’s degree & 10 years of biology research and computational biology experience OR
Bachelor’s degree & 12 years of biology research and computational biology experience AND
6 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, systems-based innovations, programs
Preferred Qualifications:
Proven leadership in genomics and computational biology with a track record of successful target discovery.
Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability in a dynamic R&D environment.
Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and foster collaboration.
Strategic thinker with a capacity for operational excellence and innovation.
Visionary leadership with a commitment to fostering a culture of collaboration and scientific excellence.
Exceptional communication skills to align and inspire teams across the organization.
Deep understanding of computational methods and their application in translational research.
Proven ability to synthesize complex data and communicate insights to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Experience building, mentoring, and leading high-performing teams.

The annual base salary range for this opportunity in the U.S. is $271,118 - $322,291.
