Be part of Amgen's newest and most advanced drug substance manufacturing plant. When completed, the Amgen FleX Batch facility will combine the latest in disposable technologies with traditional stainless-steel equipment to allow for maximum flexibility in operations. The FleX Batch facility will not only feature the best in-class drug substance manufacturing technologies with embedded industry 4.0 capabilities, but it will also integrate sustainability innovations to reduce carbon and waste, as part of Amgen's plan to be a carbon-neutral company by 2027.

Senior Engineer, Continuous Improvement

What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Engineer to drive our Continuous Improvement strategy at the new manufacturing site. This role is pivotal in developing a Continuous Improvement Culture, driving productivity, operational excellence, and value creation through strategic initiatives and improvement projects.

  • Oversee implementation and advancement of the Continuous Improvement program

  • Develop an effective strategy and structure to drive a Continuous Improvement culture across the site

  • Implement and lead the site Continuous Improvement Governance

  • Ensure metrics are in place to track the performance of the CI program, consolidate, and communicate results

  • Lead the implementation of CI strategies such as Lean Business Systems, and Human and Organizational Performance

  • Create business cases for CI projects to justify investments and resource allocation

  • Identify and lead cross-functional/strategic productivity improvement projects to drive site efficiency

  • Facilitate cross-functional CI activities such as VSM and Kaizen events

  • Manage and report on key productivity metrics

  • Conduct time studies to identify process inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement

  • Perform modeling and assessments to baseline current state, identify gaps, and to support headcount planning and budgeting

  • Support Long-Range planning activities to ensure alignment with strategic objectives

  • Train staff in Lean, Six Sigma and Human Organizational Performance methodologies and coach/mentor them on yellow/green belt projects

  • Represent the site in the OE Global Network and partner with other sites and functions to advance site and network strategies

  • Support organizational development activities and strategy development with the Senior Leadership Team

  • Administer special awards programs to recognize staff Excellence and Innovation

What we expect of you

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Continuous Improvement / Good Manufacturing Practice Operations experience OR

  • Associate’s degree and 10 years of Continuous Improvement / Good Manufacturing Practice Operations experience OR

  • Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of Continuous Improvement / Good Manufacturing Practice Operations experience OR

  • Master’s degree and 2 years of Continuous Improvement / Good Manufacturing Practice Operations experience OR

  • Doctorate degree

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in a Continuous Improvement role

  • Experience in GMP manufacturing environment (ie manufacturing, supply chain, others)

  • Expert on Lean Six Sigma methodologies and in-depth knowledge of other Continuous Improvement methodologies along with practical experience

  • Experience in Data Analysis and tools (ie Tableau)

  • Experience with resource modeling, headcount planning and financial budgeting

  • Experience with developing and presenting business cases

  • Proven project management skills and demonstrated ability to execute and manage complex projects and programs

  • Strong facilitation, analytical, creative thinking, and decision-making skills

  • Ability to influence without authority

  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and senior leadership

  • Good knowledge of Word, Excel, Smartsheet, Miro, and ability to work easily with new software

  • Green Belt or Yellow Belt Certification (ie Lean, Six Sigma)

  • PMP Certification, a plus

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
