What you will do

The Regional Sales Director (RSD) - Ocular is responsible for managing the activities of the TEPEZZA sales organization for the East region. TEPEZZA is recognized as a key growth driver and priority brand for Amgen. This leadership role oversees around 7 district managers and 45 specialty account managers within their organization. The primary focus of the RSD is to meet and exceed product sales goals, build, manage, and maintain a cohesive and effective sales team, and execute on the vision and strategy specific to the brand. Additionally, the RSD is responsible for operating within budgetary guidelines, developing strong product advocates among key stakeholders, anticipating and uncovering business trends and needs for their region, and ensuring that the sales region follows all laws and regulatory guidance.

  • Responsible for building the regional strategy with corporate and business unit direction and expected to work closely with other sales and business unit leadership.
  • Recruits, hires, trains and develops the Area Sales Directors (ASD’s) on business and clinical proficiencies resulting in effective field sales management.
  • Sets a positive tone and high standard for the regional area in terms of work ethic, culture, expectations, and business ethics by operating from a positive position of leadership.
  • Leads region as a business to ensure market penetration, analyzes the market dynamics and sets goals to ensure that sales plans are achieved or exceeded.
  • Provides a clear, compelling sales purpose both clinically and business wise for the regional team members.
  • Builds regional business strategy in line with national, corporate and business unit goals.
  • Manages operational expenses and program funding and does not exceed spending budget.
  • Ensures that the regional ASD and Specialty Account Manager (SAM) team members perform and operate within regulatory guidelines in all aspects of promotion, program implementation, and product compliance.
  • Ensures responsible organization is trained and prepared to maximize business/sales potential, and that the product message is crisp, clear and consistently delivered with high impact.
  • Develops internal and external customer relationships to successfully drive business objectives.
  • Continually educates self and team on market issues and trends and product knowledge as it pertains to specific business interests.
  • Applies innovative clinical and business technologies to enhance efficiency, expands knowledge base and refines skill building.
  • Represents the organization at local, regional and national trade shows.
  • Provides constructive input to regional and national sales meetings (content and objectives).
  • Assesses competitive threats and takes appropriate action.
  • Maintains control of work flow and ensures successful implementation of all plans.
  • Enforces work policies acting as a conduit to Human Resources (HR) and Compliance and Regulatory Functions.
  • Demonstrates a tolerance for stress and the ability to make decisions quickly and assume risk in the face of uncertainty.
  • Works closely and effectively with Marketing, Sales Operations, Sales Training, Managed Markets and Clinical Field Personnel.

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree & 4 years of collective account management experience, sales, marketing & commercial experience

Or

Master’s degree & 8 years of collective account management experience, sales marketing, & commercial experience

Or

Bachelor’s degree & 10 years of collective account management experience, sales marketing, & commercial experience

In addition to meeting at least one of the above requirements, you must have at least 4 years experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation or resources. Your managerial experience may run concurrently with the required technical experience referenced above.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA preferred.
  • 5+ years sales leadership experience required with a strong preference for buy and bill environment within relevant therapeutic area(s).
  • 10+ years’ experience in biotech/pharmaceutical sales; buy-and-bill and/or biologic strongly preferred.
  • Outstanding leadership with demonstrated ability to build and effectively manage mid-level managers.
  • Thorough understanding of current pharmaceutical sales regulatory environment.
  • Excellent planning and organization skills.
  • Ability to quickly build effective relationships and navigate the organizational infrastructure.
  • Ability to focus on the big picture without losing focus to details.
  • Employ data and research to support and grow the business.
  • Proven ability to build a strong team, manage teams through change and growth, and maintaining a strong culture.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Professional, proactive demeanor.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
