What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this role, you will be a part of the department of pharmacokinetics and drug metabolism (PKDM) within Amgen Research. This group is dedicated to the discovery and development of novel, effective, and safe medicines. The successful candidate will work in a team environment to characterize the absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and pharmacokinetic properties of therapeutic drug candidates to achieve their full pharmacological potential. PKDM works in close partnership with subject areas such as medicinal chemistry, protein sciences, pharmacology, toxicology, pharmaceutical sciences, clinical pharmacology and regulatory to craft promising clinical therapeutic candidates, conduct preclinical development studies, support clinical evaluation, and contribute to IND and NDA filing

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop and perform quantitative LCMS assays for various molecular modalities.
  • Explore new and novel analytical technologies to support the development of novel and unique modalities within Amgen pipeline.
  • Develop targeted and untargeted proteomics approaches to support studies such as protein-drug adduct identification, target occupancy determination, etc.
  • Employ bioanalytical techniques to support the biotransformation of large molecules.
  • Be able to troubleshoot independently when instrument or assay problems arise.

Other responsibilities will include basic biochemistry research, electronic laboratory notebook keeping and communication of results to project teams.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree in Analytical Chemistry or a related discipline with strong LCMS and/or CEMS training
  • Master’s degree and 4 years of the relevant experience or
  • Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of the relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven expertise and experience in LCMS and/or CEMS are required.
  • Demonstrated track record of successfully developing LCMS or CEMS methods.
  • Hands on experience in sample preparation technique (biological processing, tissue homogenization, immunoaffinity capture, enzymatic digestion, SPE etc.) and experience with automated platform (AssayMAP Bravo, Tecan etc.) is not required but preferred.
  • Hands on experience in various HPLC, CE, and Mass Spec instruments is preferred, such as high-flow LC, micro-flow LC, nanoflow LC, QQQ, ToF, Orbitrap, etc.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
