What you will do:
As the Marketing Excellence & Capability Lead within Amgen Transformation Office Japan, the role will play a crucial role in building and enhancing the marketing capabilities of our internal marketing teams as well as driving marketing excellence. As the internal expert in this domain and working closely with the Executive Director Business Transformation to align on areas of focus, collaborate with GCC team to ensure the Amgen Brand Management content and curriculum is adapted to fit the local market and teams needs and deployed at the necessary cadence to ensure close upscale in the team’s capabilities. This role will engage with the GCC team, the marketing team, commercial leaders, the Learning and Performance team, and cross-functional teams to assess, diagnose, design and implement strategic capability programs to elevate our marketing practices. Your expertise in this area will all you to focus on developing high performing marketing teams and embedding data-driven, HCP & Patient-centric approaches that align with the unique dynamics of our therapeutic areas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Thought Leadership: Act as a trusted internal consultant to marketing teams, offering strategic guidance on developing robust brand plans, value propositions, and customer engagement models. Stay updated with the latest marketing and industry trends regulations and innovations.
- Marketing Competency Framework: in collaboration with the GCC team ensure the Amgen Brand Management content and curriculum is adapted to fit Japan market specificities and need as well as the Japan teams needs, and is deployed at the necessary cadence to ensure close upscale in the team’s capabilities.
- Develop and implement tailored marketing capability programs for internal teams, focusing on brand strategy development, HCP (Health Care Professional) engagement, patient-centric marketing, omnichannel strategies, and the effective use of marketing technologies. Innovate with external parties to develop a unique model for marketing capability building and recognition.
- Review and fit to local needs the ABM curriculum and cadence of training
- Develop, implement, and embed a comprehensive Marketing Competency Framework to assess the skills, knowledge, and behaviors required for marketing roles.
- Collaborate with HR and Talent Acquisition teams to integrate the framework into recruitment processes, ensuring the hiring of high-caliber marketers aligned with business needs.
- Use the framework to guide performance evaluations, identify high-potential talent, and create personalized development plans for marketing team members.
- Regularly review and update the competency framework to reflect evolving marketing trends, business priorities, and industry best practices.
- Capability Development:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of the current marketing team’s capabilities, identifying strengths, gaps, and opportunities for growth.
- Develop and customize training programs (adapt aBM) , workshops, and learning resources focused on core areas such as brand strategy, customer engagement, digital and omni-channel marketing, data-driven decision-making, and competitive intelligence.
- Foster a learning culture by curating best practices, case studies, and industry benchmarks to keep the marketing team updated on cutting-edge strategies and tools.
- Build a strong relationship with the Global Commercial Capabilities and create a feedback communication to build a strong partnership and keep evolving on capability progress
- Strategic Consultation:
- Support teams in crafting patient-centric and doctor-centric experiences, ensuring marketing strategies resonate with target audiences and drive meaningful interactions.
- Provide expert advice on integrating multi-channel approaches, ensuring campaigns are cohesive, impactful, and aligned with business goals.
- Program & Initiative Management:
- Design and launch targeted initiatives that enhance marketing excellence, such as playbooks, toolkits, and frameworks for brand planning, campaign execution, and performance measurement.
- Establish platforms for best practice sharing, facilitating cross-team collaboration and fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
- Lead pilots and test-and-learn initiatives to explore new marketing approaches, scaling successful programs across the organization.
- Cross-functional Collaboration:
- Partner with Sales, Medical, Digital, and Business Analytics teams to co-create customer-centric strategies and ensure alignment between marketing activities and broader business objectives.
- Work hand-in-hand with HR and Learning & Development teams to embed marketing capability programs into the organization’s overall talent development strategy.
- Facilitate cross-functional workshops and brainstorming sessions, ensuring diverse perspectives contribute to well-rounded marketing solutions.
- Measurement & Evaluation:
- Develop and implement a robust framework for measuring the effectiveness of marketing capability programs, using both qualitative and quantitative metrics.
- Set clear KPIs to track learning outcomes, such as training participation rates, skill improvement scores, and feedback surveys.
- Analyze the business impact of capability initiatives by linking marketing excellence efforts to brand performance, customer engagement, and omni-channel effectiveness.

What we expect of you:
Qualifications
- Educational Background: MBA or Master’s degree in Marketing, Business, Life Sciences, or related fields.
- Work Experience: 7+ years of experience in pharmaceutical marketing, marketing consulting, or commercial excellence roles with a strong focus on capability building & driving excellence.
- Pharma Marketing Expertise: Deep understanding of pharmaceutical marketing practices, including regulatory considerations, HCP and patient engagement strategies, and omnichannel marketing (desirable
- Facilitation Skills: Proven experience in delivering training programs and workshops specific to pharma marketing teams.
- Analytical Thinking: Strong ability to assess marketing functions, use data-driven insights, and design strategic solutions tailored to the healthcare sector.
