Principal Engineer– CPO Primary Container Engineering

What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will work under the Material Science and Engineering CPO in Thousand Oaks, CA. This role requires applying diverse and advanced scientific and engineering principles (mechanical and materials science).

Responsibilities:

  • Developing a deep understanding of primary container closure systems, focusing on product contact surface interfaces for combination products
  • Leading scientific studies on the interaction between drug product formulation and surface tribology, and publishing findings in key conferences and journals
  • Developing tools for evaluating syringe system variations in surface tribology, aging, lubricity, and characterizing mechanical and physical properties of primary components
  • Leading the characterization of supplier process capabilities and improving processes related to surface controls and tribology
  • Collaborating extensively with internal and external collaborators, including manufacturing, suppliers, quality, regulatory, and senior management
  • Influencing key opinion leaders by providing technical papers, presentations, and attending key conferences
  • This role requires expertise in material science, including glass forming, polymer and elastomer processing, thermal and stress analysis, surface and interface chemistry and physics, extractables/leachables, mechanical properties, and industry standard methodologies.

The position involves international travel, with up to 20% of the time dedicated to assisting our primary component design and development projects.

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 2 years of Scientific or Engineering experience

Or

Master’s degree and 4 years of Scientific or Engineering experience

Or

Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of Scientific or Engineering experience

Or

Associate’s degree and 10 years of Scientific or Engineering experience

Or

High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Scientific or Engineering experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.S. or Ph. D. in Material Science, Biomedical Engineering, or Polymer Engineering with 5+ years of experience in the Pharmaceutical/Biotechnology or Medical Device industry.
  • B.S. in Materials Science, Biomedical Engineering, or Polymer Engineering with 10+ years of experience in the Pharmaceutical/Biotechnology or Medical Device industry.
  • Proven track record of leading and executing cross-functional projects
  • Strong teamwork, excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Direct experience with manufacturing processes (glass/elastomers/polymers) for medical (aseptic) applications
  • Deep knowledge of lubrication/tribology sciences
  • Experience with forensic analytical techniques and equipment
  • Ability to learn and rapidly adapt to new requirements in a fast-moving environment
  • An Operational Excellence approach to work, driving rapid results

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
