Associate - Research Operations

What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. Amgen is seeking a talented and motivated individual to join the Research Materials Management (RMM) group at our South San Francisco, CA Research site. In this vital role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of integrated automation platforms that support the early drug discovery efforts of the Lead Discovery & Characterization department.

  • Work with diverse Research stakeholders to specify, create, and implement sophisticated workflows that supply compounds and reagents to Amgen’s Research sites in North America, Asia, and Europe.

  • Communicate and collaborate with scientists and partners in different time zones to achieve successful outcomes and be accountable for the productivity of workflows you manage.

  • Operate specialized laboratory equipment and instrumentation

  • Create protocols/scripts within automation software

  • Build, prioritize, and coordinate work plans and adhere to timelines

  • Multi-task the execution of deadline-driven workflows in real-time

  • Troubleshooting of various lab instrumentation and automation

  • Perform Quality Control (QC) and calibration of equipment for both accuracy and precision

  • Perform HTQC using LC-MS to verify mass and purity of newly submitted compounds

  • Interact with multiple functional areas in a highly matrixed-team environment

  • Perform general laboratory housekeeping activities

  • Complete training on assigned tasks

  • Follow safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but is not limited to, the maintenance of training records, laboratory documentation, written procedures, building monitoring systems and laboratory logbooks

  • This position is lab-based and requires the technical abilities to program, operate, and maintain automated liquid handling platforms dedicated to these workflows.

Basic Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in Analytical Chemistry, Physical, Life Sciences or related technical discipline

OR

  • Associate's Degree and 2 years experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of experience in lab environment

  • Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Excellent automation troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

  • Experience operating specific liquid handling automation: Hamilton VANTAGE, Agilent Bravo, Beckman Echo

  • Experience writing protocols with laboratory automation software: Hamilton VENUS, Agilent VWorks, Echo Liquid Handler, Titian Mosaic

  • Experience operating Waters LC-MS equipment to perform quality control of organic chemistry molecules

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
