Role Purpose

The Corporate Affairs Manager and Patient Advocacy Lead plays a key role in protecting and enhancing Amgen’s reputation with critical stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, policymakers, government officials, employees, local communities, and patient advocacy groups. Supporting the Governmental and Corporate Affairs Senior Manager, the role acts as a strategic partner to the General Manager and cross-functional leadership team to align communications with business priorities.

As Patient Advocacy Lead, the role also engages with patient associations and interest groups to elevate patient needs and lead initiatives that drive meaningful, patient-centered outcomes. Through integrated corporate affairs and advocacy efforts, the role helps position Amgen as a trusted and responsible healthcare leader.

Responsibilities

Internal communication - in close collaboration with HR/GM

Together with the Senior Governmental and Corporate Affairs Manager, the Corporate Affairs Manager leads internal communications for the affiliate, developing and executing a strategic and operational plan using various tools—such as All Staff meetings, Lunch & Learns, emails, newsletters, digital screens, and MS Teams. The goal is to foster a strong, values-driven culture where employees feel informed, engaged, and connected, with a clear understanding of business priorities and key initiatives.

The CA team is not responsible for individual communications by leadership team members or teams, but only for the broad, large audience type communications that concern All Staff.

External communications - in close collaboration with the cross-functional teams

In collaboration with the Senior Governmental and Corporate Affairs Manager, the Corporate Affairs Manager leads external communications for the affiliate, building and implementing the tactical and operational plan that supports business goals and strengthens Amgen’s reputation. This includes effective corporate and therapeutic area communications, as well as managing media relations, digital presence, social media strategy and content, the local corporate website, and disease awareness campaigns. The role also represents Amgen in relevant industry forums and leads external engagement initiatives—Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR or ESG) activities included—ensuring consistency, compliance, and alignment with corporate priorities.

Patient advocacy - in close collaboration with the cross-functional teams

The Patient Advocacy Lead is responsible for building strong, trust-based relationships with patient organizations to highlight patient needs and drive impactful prioritised advocacy initiatives. This includes collaborating with patient associations to raise awareness of health conditions, support patient education, and promote empowerment. The role fosters meaningful partnerships that aim to improve patient outcomes, while gathering insights into the real-world challenges patients face and co-developing solutions. Additionally, the role represents Amgen in patient advocacy matters within the Belgian trade association, ensuring the patient voice is integrated into broader healthcare discussions.

Qualifications

  • Master degree in Communications or Science

  • 5+ years of industry experience in biotechnology, pharmaceutical or healthcare

  • Strong oral and written communications skills in Dutch /French/English

  • Technical savvy

  • Experience using social media tools for professional communication

  • Previous experience in Patient Advocacy

  • Strong understanding of healthcare policies, patient rights, and ethical standards in patient care.

  • Compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care and advocacy.

  • Strategic and creative thinker with the ability to truly understand business challenges and priorities and develop and execute actionable programs that integrate soundly with business objectives
  • Craft clear and compelling messages to effectively communicate the company's mission, initiatives, and achievements to internal and external audiences.
  • Ability to productively navigate a challenging and dynamic environment, deal with rapidly changing priorities and ability to re-prioritize and recognize when to escalate
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to quickly develop network of internal and external stakeholders
  • Under the lead of the Sr Gov. Affairs & CA Mgr, the Corporate Affairs Manager collaborates across the region to co-create plans, share best practices, and foster mutual inspiration. The role also connects with global Corporate Affairs and Patient Advocacy teams to stay aligned with global priorities, strategies, and plans—adapting and executing relevant initiatives at the local level in a way that reflects the local context.

  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders and utilize these to influence outcomes.

  • Familiar with Amgen technologies and tools available to CA for internal and external communications incl Email, MS Teams, Survey tools, website, social media tools etc.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills in local language as well as in English, ability to distill complex issues and information into simple, compelling, and relevant messages and storytelling
  • Experience establishing two-way channels to open communication lines, create dialogue and ensure messages are reaching staff at all levels
  • Demonstrated experience using social media tools for professional communication
  • Knows the appropriate local approvals necessary for internal and external communications and ensures compliant execution
