Automation Engineer (First Line Support)
At our Breda site, medicines are labeled, assembled, packed, stored, and shipped to destinations across the globe. Over 1,000 dedicated individuals from more than 40 nationalities contribute to supply chain processes, manufacturing, distribution, marketing, sales, and clinical research for groundbreaking medicines to fight the world’s toughest diseases.

What you will do
This role is for technical expert who love solving complex issues, sharing knowledge, and driving efficiency in a dynamic GMP production environment. You’ll serve as the automation go-to expert on shift, keeping our packaging systems running at peak performance and mentoring technicians along the way.
Key responsibilities:
- Be the shift’s automation expert – Lead (advanced) troubleshooting for Mechatronics, PLC, SCADA, and HMI systems and act as the first escalation point.
- Keep production flowing – Resolve issues quickly to reduce downtime, improve reliability, and support fast-paced packaging operations.
- Coach and elevate others – Share your knowledge by training and mentoring technicians and supporting their growth in automation.
- Connect the dots – Work closely with Engineering, Quality, Technology, and vendors to solve problems and implement improvements.
- Make your mark – Support continuous improvement and projects, contributing directly to smarter, more efficient systems.

What we expect of you
You bring solid hands-on experience, sharp problem-solving skills, and a passion for getting results. You’re not just maintaining systems—you’re making them better.
- MBO+ degree in Automation, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or equivalent.
- At least 5+ years in a maintenance/engineering role within a GMP-regulated or high-tech production environment.
- Proven skills in maintaining and troubleshooting automation systems (PLCs, SCADA, HMI).
- Ability to train, mentor, and coach technical staff in mechatronics and automation-related topics.
- Fluent in English (written and spoken).
- Willing to work in a 3-shift operation.
